Better Hurry
It better hurry. The outer perimeter of the heavier squalls should reach the coast in about 7 hours. A good bit of the storm will be inland in 10-11 hours. Not much time to strengthen to a Cat 2. Minimal Cat 1 is still doubtful, particularly with the semi-exposed center to the northeast.

Claudette was deemed a 90 mph hurricane at landfall ... pretty close but high end Cat. 1 ... The 1001 mb pressure with Erika now correlates to a 50 mph tropical storm. Also remember the lag with pressure drops and wind increases, they aren't immediate ...

Yep
I was going to make that same point, AF Met. Just today I heard some TV weatherman say that you have to add the forward speed to the max winds to get the winds on the north side of this storm. Of course, the official storm designation for max sustained wind already takes this storm mortion into account.
