Re: SE TX/SW LA weather: HOT!
We got less than 1/2" here at the house, but it all came down in about 15 minutes. Have been having a steady light rain for a while though. Took the temp down to 78F(lowest in a few days) from 102f with a hi of 110f earlier. Much nicer!!! Still have a heat advisory through tomorrow though.

Wow... crazy weather today. My internet was out all morning (don't think it was weather related) and it hadn't been back but a couple of minutes when I noticed the wind really whipping outside. I barely had time to get a radar open before the electricity went out. It went on and off briefly a bunch of times within just a few minutes before going out for good... before the rain ever even got here. Stormed all afternoon. It got hot inside quickly and tree limbs and debris scattered all over the place. (eventually cooled off some though) When I left, a huge tree branch had broken off and was laying on power lines and blocking part of Hwy. 105. 50-60 mph wind gusts, per KFDM. I personally saw a lot of 40s on various weather stations. My power is back on tonight and there were a lot of Entergy trucks in my neighborhood when I got home about an hour ago. Whew... wild weather!
Seeing as how ex-TD5 fell apart, I'm assuming this wasn't associated with that?

Re: SE TX/SW LA weather: HOT!
Ended up with a little over an inch of rain yesterday afternoon. There were some gusts to the upper 30's as the OFB came through and a nice temp drop as well to end a day that saw 101 in my backyard. Pool is down to a 'cool' 91 now.

Re: SE TX/SW LA weather: HOT!
Ex-TD5 still causing problems in SE TX. I've gotten rain today and tonight, but it hasn't been bad like yesterday. Oh, btw... I found out today that my side of the street came back earlier last night, but everyone on the opposite side of the street didn't get their electricity back until nearly midnight. I don't know how many were out that late, but apparently, a lot. That explains all the Entergy trucks still in the neighborhood. You'd think I would have noticed how dark one side of the street was
lol. The winds knocked down a bunch of lines in the area.
More storms expected the next few days as well.
From tonight's AFD - NWS LCH:
<snippet>
.UPDATE...THE REMNANT LOW OF WHAT WAS ONCE TD #5 WAS JUST
NORTHWEST OF LAFAYETTE LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND IS CURRENTLY SOUTH
OF ALEXANDRIA. SOME STORMS HAVE BEEN FIRING UP WITH EXCESSIVE
LIGHTNING IN CENTRAL LOUISIANA AND EARLIER WE SAW SOME STREET
FLOODING AROUND BEAUMONT AND STRONG WINDS WITH A TSTM OUT OVER
SABINE LAKE. THREE HOUR RAINFALL HAS BEEN GENEROUS OVER THE WATCH
AREA WITH AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES COMMON.

Lightning strike, fire, water-filled underpasses
August 17, 2010 4:25 PM
Scott Lawrence
BEAUMONT - An air conditioning repairman was indirectly affected but okay after a lightning strike during heavy thunderstorms that kept firefighters busy Tuesday afternoon.
The repairman was working inside a home in the 1 thousand block of Palermo in south Beaumont, and he told KFDM News lightning struck a transformer nearby and he felt a jolt but was okay.
The 911 call came in at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Firefighters also responded to a report of a small fire and smoke in a building in the 5 thousand block of MLK Parkway.
The fire was minor and no one was hurt.
Undepasses quickly filled with water on MLK near Lamar University. Police urge drivers to stay away from the area.
Stay with KFDM News and Weather for the latest on the storms.

Re: SE TX/SW LA weather: HOT!
Another day another heat advisory. Rinse and repeat. Actually there is no heat advisory for tomorrow since they are forecasting 60% POPs. Wow, we will get a one day break!! Woohoo! Houston is on track for the hottest month ever since records began, not because of lots of !00f+ temps but because the lows this month have all been around 80f or a little higher along with many high 90's for high temps. Temps are expected to go right back up Friday along with new heat advisories.
edit: They changed their mind. The heat advisory has been extended into tomorrow.

Pretty amazing - some decent storms are forming all around me! Maybe I won't have to water tonight

We got hammered again just after 7 pm. Picked up almost another inch! There was also frequent loud to ground lightning once again. Seems the golf course is now a target for the bolts. Very nice show but a little to close for comfort. This has definitely been a strange summer.

I was not expecting any rain at all myself. The radar froze up around 6:15 then I began looking outside and could see some clearing. We had some people show up at the house and the bottom fell out. It went from sunny to heavy rain and intense lightning in a matter of minutes. I have only lived in The Woodlands for 3 years and seems like these intense storms are very common. In Beaumont, fronts would bring intense storms but we got more the tropical downpours with no lightning.
I do like that for a new forecast term, Notadropforme.

Re: SE TX/SW LA weather: HOT!
Maybe a bit of hope from HGX...
ANOTHER WARM START TO THE DAY WITH MIN TEMPS ONLY FALLING INTO THE
UPPER 70S TO LOWER 80S. THE WARM START COUPLED WITH ABUNDANT
SUNSHINE THIS MORNING SHOULD YIELD MAX TEMPS NEAR OR SLIGHTLY
ABOVE 100 DEGREES INLAND...MID 90S COAST. DESPITE SOME MIXING AND
SLIGHTLY LOWER SFC DEW PTS...FEEL HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL EXCEED
105 DEGREES SO HEAT ADVISORY WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT. A WEAK
BOUNDARY OVER EAST TEXAS WILL SERVE AS A FOCUS FOR AFTERNOON AND
EVENING CONVECTION. 12Z SOUNDINGS SHOW PW VALUES AROUND 2.2 INCHES
AND THIS MATCHES UP WELL WITH SATELLITE DERIVED VALUES. HAVE
RAISED POPS FOR THE AFTERNOON/EVENING AS FORECAST SOUNDINGS LOOK
RATHER ROBUST. CONVECTIVE TEMPS ARE BETWEEN 96-98 DEGREES SO
CONVECTION SHOULD START LATE. FEEL POTENTIAL IS ALSO GROWING FOR
STRONG STORMS AS CAPE VALUES EXCEED 4000 AND INVERTED V SIGNATURE
SUPPORT DOWNBURST WINDS. WILL EVALUATE AGAIN THIS AFTERNOON ONCE THE
12Z GFS ARRIVES. 12Z NAM AND RUC SUPPORT GREATER AREAL COVERAGE
THIS EVENING AS WELL. NEW ZONES OUT BY 1030 AM. 43/MB

Unbelievable storm came through shortly after midnight. Very heavy lightning causing power outages in the area of town i live in. Luckily i'm on a hospital's electrical grid. Unfortunately an acquaintance of mine did not fare well in the storm. They lost their home by fire due to a lightning strike. They are ok as they were on their way home from a weekend trip but their pet dog was home and didn't survive the fire.

Picked up just over 1" again here in The Woodlands. Again, strong winds and frequent cloud to ground lightning. The storm developed very quickly and rained for almost 1 hour.
Currently 79 degrees.
