Convection
Actually, it looks like the convection is increasing as of 6:20pm CDT if you look at visible imagery. The cloud tops are a bit warmer, though, on IR. But there appears to be no LLC. An island just south of the ball of convection associated with the ULL is still reporting an easterly wind at 10kts. Also, pressures at the surface beneath the ULL are in the 1017-1019mb range - kind of high. Lower pressures are well to the southwest of the convection..
It's interesting to note that the system is now classified as Dvorak 1.0 (earlier was "too weak"):
13/1615 UTC 25.1N 75.3W T1.0/1.0 90 -- Atlantic Ocean
Of course, they haven't figured out the system is 91L not 90 yet.
This system is very close to being upgraded to Erika. All it will take is a single SW-W wind somewhere and it'll be Erika immediately. The plane found 35kt surface winds (and a ship reported 35kts as well), so probably no TD on the initial advisory.
