The Floater is an adjustable satellite positioning for closer/better looks at significant weather - in layman's terms -.

In simple terms, a "Floater" is a satellite camera/sensor that can be focused on a specific area of disturbed weather. The "Floaters" cover a limited area but have a much greater resolution. When a special interest area is active, the satellite operation folks can focus these sensors/camers on that area. That's what we call "Moving the Floater" :-) The NHC site offers 2 different sets of floaters on their web site. Two storms at once :-)

Thanks for the answers. I was going to ask the same thing, but Colin beat me to the point. I keep on learning new things daily about the tropics and all the different technology that goes into a forecast.
