I don't think we will know whats happening until it punches the core, the winds may well hang out at ehat they were further out but the eyewall winds may well have ramped up, indeed I think the fact those winds haven't increased maybe a sign the system is starting to strengthen more.

At least down to 974mb and hasn't hit the center yet (almost there though). Probably around 972mb.

The storm is currently filling in. This is it's best chance to strengthen right now for the next 12-18 hrs. Im in the hurricane camp when it passes through

Sounds to me like a hurricane, just a prediction before the recon gets the wind data.

If this doesn't have hurricane winds it'd be quite amazing, pressure dropping down to close to a strong category-1 would be...gotta wonder whether the sheer size is causing this system to have a rather extreme pressure-wind mismatch.

Note that the end of the last set of observations is south of 23° N. Anyone who thought they saw Alex bend to the southwest in the most recent satellite images is not mistaken, it seems.
