Yeah there is so little difference its probably just Alex showing some fluctuation in terms of pressure.

990mbs probably is about right.

Yep, will be very interesting to see what recon find next time in, I'd expect some slight strengthening to occur as the storm gets into slowly lower shear.

Gulfstream data should be in the 00Z model runs then! YAY!! With the weak steering currents and nearly stationary movement this could be interesting tonight.

I dont know a lot about the dropsondes data but I see the area of 200mb with light winds. However, I would like to see from any of our pro mets to come and explain all those numbers and graphics the dropsonde of the Gulfstream jet has.

I have a sneaky feeling recon will find a stronger system when it gets there, convection is going up over the center for the first time in a while with any real meaning.

Then we can see whether the convective bursting that has been occuring recently has helped to strengthen Alex.

In a few minutes we will know how strong Alex is as plane is on operational altitud.

I think the reduction in this mission is not 75% right?

Expecting to see winds that once again justify 50kts, so whilst it may or may not offically be stronger, the winds will overall be higher, I also expect a slightly lower pressure again.

Flying at 850mb = reduction of 80%.

Need 60 kt FL winds to support current intensity on that basis, need 80 kt to support Hurricane Alex.

Lets see how the winds correspond to that.By the way,the plane apparently will not make a pass before the 7 PM CDT advisory as is flying NW.

They must of seen something they were interested in...or the NHC wanted to check out...they are in the area of colder cloud tops, so

brunota said what I was about to comment, looks like they went off course a bit to check out the convection. Probably will bend back in for a center pass fix for the advisory.
