snip <) You talk too much. Look at my dad's posts. Short. Sweet. To the point. >
sometimes what i say cannot be held to a sound bite like your dad.
snip<2) If you don't like living here, then WHY ARE YOU HERE? And don't give me that,"But I do like living here," or, "I am a 'real' American" (pull-EEZE), because, by the way you talk, you don't and aren't. Get the ^*&* out of this country if you don't like it>
so much like your dad you think if you dont agree with everything the government does, that automatically means you hate america. it is BECAUSE i can have contrary opinions to your dad and you and freely express them is why i love this country.
if you and your dad think that no one should express a political opinon that is different from yours maybe it is the two of you who should get the ^*&* out.

Very well, then; I choose, as "neutral ground", the assembly hall at Hillsdale College, Hillsdale Michigan, date and time of your choosing.
The gauge is thrown, david. And leave my 14-year-old out of the equation; he is passionate, but lacks subtlety and discernment. I am your focus; let's keep it that way.
And many thanks for the invitation, but we respectfully decline to absent ourselves. I live here, fought for this country (and later for the citizens vs. thugs on the streets), and spent the vast majority of my life in service to my fellow man in many ways and through many means.
All I see coming from you, david, is stale 1960's rhetoric without substance, and/or any (posted or "Profile") background about you at all. Why is this so? I have nothing to hide....where's your resume?

well considering your choice of venues, which is not what i would consider a neutral site i would have to decline that. plus i cannot afford to take off from work and pay for airline tickets, etc
instead i offer this. we set up a chat room. invite others to watch but not participate and debate the issues.
that would be a truly neutral site, without the cost of travel to either of us.

Understood, Rainband...
Besides, I don't like eviscerating "unarmed" opponents.
But aside from the current maelstrom, I do find it somewhat distressing that "wannabehippee" has not seen fit to grace us with his curriculum vitae; where did he earn his baccalaureate, Master's and/or Doctorate, and in what disciplines? Does he hold a Phi Beta Kappa key, or MENSA card? In what areas is he able to claim service or philanthropy?
In short, who is he, and from what lofty height does he pronounce his philippics upon us, the great unwashed masses?
You show me yours, david, and I'll show you mine. I can play the "academic arrogance" game as well as any liberal, and better than most; more (and do take note), I have never lost an open, face-to-face debate.

We are watching
Here at storm2k, Debate is welcome. If this debate becomes ugly, by this I mean insulting individuals and using profanity or the hint of it, it will be stopped. We are a family and families have disagreements but as I said keep them clean. We are watching and hoping all involved understand..Thanks for your attention to this matter..Sincerely Rainband

streetsoldier... although you hold your own very well, I must add that you just can't deal with an irrational person. You try and make sense of them and it will in turn drive you crazy. As left wing and lop sided as his views me be, consider the source. Some folks live in the past and feel this war is about oil, like in the eighties. But they seem to have lost touch with reality and the real events that happened on Sept. 11th. Will it take another Sept. 11th to make all these anti-Bush protestors more humble? No one likes war. But, in this case there is an exception to the rule. And it is to rid the world of terrorists and those countries that fund and harbor terrorists. It sickens me to know that these hypocrites that live right here in the United States have forgotten about all those innocent men, women and children who merely woke up that morning to go to work, fly home, or take a field trip for making the grade. Some need to quit living in the past and face what is really happening in the Middle East and lose the oil intro, because that is NOT what this is about.

Here's my breakdown of the protestors
20% just want to jump on the bandwagon, they're bored and are looking for excitement
45% want to relive the 1960's. They were too young to be a part of anything that happened in the 1960's but saw all the Woodstock and Arlo Guthrie movies, the pictures of college students putting flowers into guns, etc, etc, and sorely feel that they missed out. They want their moment of glory. The will march and wave signs, and then drive home in their BMW's and Altima's.
10% are genuine "old heads" who been there and done that and want to do it again. They are here to party.
10% honestly and genuinely feel that war is wrong and peace is right.
10% are activist, flaming liberals who, while supporting america, will do anything to oppose bush.
5% are commited anti-americans who are intent on overthrowing our society.

This space for rent.
snip <I have a long-standing policy not to visit "chat rooms"; besides, as previously stated, I want to "eyeball" you, and you me; take each other's measure, if you please.
Dissociative debate without that fine means of personal assessment is pointless, and I will not be party to it.>
well since i work and cannot afford to take days off or to travel much i cannot come to you for a debate. you do not visit chat rooms, that is fine.
and since you wanted to know so badly
i have a bachelors in Business Administration with a minor in marketing and a MA in secondary education with a concentration in social studies.

i know street soldier will call me a liar for this but i dont care. i wanted everyone to know that i did NOT attend the rally in NYC a few weeks ago. the reason is that the organizers of the rally and some who attended were not ones i agree with politically. Like the ones holding signs saying the potential war against Iraq was as a result of the "jewish" lobby. and the fact that it was organized by a stalinist group. despite what streetsoldier and others might think i am not a communist.
I actually resent being called that. I cannot believe in this day and age one cannot be a liberal without being called a pinko or commie. I had thought those days were behind us. But when i hear names like commie and pinko being thrown out it brings back horrors of the days of McCarthy.
finally i am against the war in the gulf for several reasons
1) i think right now sadaam is fairly well contained and is not our biggest threat. i instead think bigger threats to the safety of the US is from Iran, North Korea and Al Qada. North korea openly admits it has the bomb and has shown it will sell to anyone. Iran is far more closely alligned with terror groups than Iraq.
2) I would like to hear from bush saying that once we go in and defeat iraq (which i have no doubt we would) that all the revenues from the oil fields will go to rebuild the country and not to any foreign sources. i have not heard this. instead i have heard rumors that the revenues would be used to pay for occupation costs
3)what are we going to do once sadaam is defeated? do we have any strategy in that regard or is it an open ended effort?

Wannabe -
Streetsoldier hasn't been around the last week due to medical problems (i.e. blood pressure).
I agree 100% with you. I've also taken to heart the "if you're not with us, you're against us", and because I have liberal views, I'm being labelled a Communist too and anti-American. I have the right to disagree as an American per our Bill of Rights and you have the right to disagree with me. That is being American.

as i was away from home for a couple of days at a family wedding i did not know street solider was ill.
despite any political differences we may have i would not want to see him be ill.
I hope is ok and gets well quickly. I need him around to keep the lively debate from the left and right going. my prayers will go out that he will recover shortly.
I do have an idea though. we should petition to be on crossfire. maybe we can bring in better ratings than they do now

N Korea is not the biggest threat. IMO. N Korea is hungry due to sanctions and are merely using WMD as a bargaining tool with the United States. I believe they can be dealt with diplomatically. We have tried for 12 years to deal with Saddam. It is time to put an end to this man once and for all. We can't rid terrorism in one sweep. We have to do it country by country.
