Texas winter wx thread (2009-2010)

cant read the map whats this march madness mean for dfw.

IF it verifies, areas north and west of that low would possibly get snow and blowing snow (EC right now says from Waco to Tyler on north and west though the Texas panhandle right into Oklahoma). There's a possibility if it winds itself up tightly, parts of the southern plains could be looking at a blizzard.

I find it equally amazing that since I moved here in 2005, I have experienced more snow/sleet events here than I did for a stretch in Dallas from about 2000-2005. Granted, up there we had quite the snowstorm (Valentine's 2004) and much colder temps at times....but we've had, what, 6 or 7 bouts of winter weather here since then? When I was at Tech in the early 90's I met some fellow students from Houston who claimed to have never seen snow before. I move here and we get this...pretty crazy stuff if you ask me.[/quote]

I remember it well. I was 7..and it was so cool in La Marque, Texas!!!

This will be the third time I have had at least two snow experiences in one Winter here in Houston.

That is the first one I am talking about. I don't think I will ever forget the Winter of 1973! Newly married and having the time of my life in the snow in Houston after growing up in N FL with one snow in 15 years.

Close your eyes and dream of snow. Dorothy, take me to Kansas. Our snow here was very short lived compared to Dec. No accumulation. May get some more here. Daughter is on the phone from Cypress and they are having more snow.

Same here as well Jason. Very light flurries now and that's it. I guess the Upper Low will not get this far S to give us another shot tonight.

Yeah, I got a little. Not nearly as much as 12/08 when we got a winter wonderland, at least by SE TX standards. Here's a few pics from 12/08 and here's the ones from 12/09.


I've been getting some sleet off and on for a little while now... currently 34 and the precip is about to end shortly. *sigh*
So much for all snow after 9pm. lol

I haven't been outside much because I've been busy, but if there's been any flurries mixed in, I haven't seen them.

Just very light flurries here now if anything. Don't know for sure when it ended or if we had another band like I thought we might after my daughter called. If I am reading the radar right the vort is passing just to the N of Round Rock and heading E towards college Station. Looks like there is still a good chance for more light snow for most of TX between Houston and Dallas with the wrap around coming in from the Killeen area.

What's the highest total you guys have seen? Most so far I could find is 4 to 5 inches around Palestine, Tx. Waco looks to have the most out of the bigger cities so far with 3. With the heavy bands earlier today, I'd think someone in the far northern reaches of S\E Texas had quite a bit.

Ahh that's right I forgot about West Texas. Probably highest there since majority of the event was well below freezing for that region with dewpoint in the 20s.

i think we got close to 3 inches here with still more to come. its so nice to get into the snow action as we were missed by the snow events in houston and dallas earlier this winter...everything is starting to even itself out which is always nice

also i was just wondering...what happens when there is no more winter weather in texas to talk about? do you guys create a new topic for spring (texas severe thunderstorms), and in summer (texas hurricanes)?

I'm actually a hurricane forecaster, so I'm in "Talkin' Tropics" most of the time.
