Southern Plains winter wx thread (2009-2010)

Thankfully the ice looks to be over for good now, with the main p-type now becoming snow.

I am still in the MWC area, we are recieving moderate to heavy snow right now And from the previous post looks like it may continue through the afternoon. All in all a pretty decent storm for the metro area. We were fortunate that we recieved more sleet than ice, although, last night we picked up enough drizzle here for the trees to get an additional 1/4" of ice.

As of 12:45pm, I have 1.3" of new snow on the ground on top of the sleet/ice that fell yesterday. Snow is still falling at a good clip too, so another 1-3" of additional accumulation seems quite possible.

Bands of snow have become heavier this afternoon, bringing my total up to about 4" so far. Quite an impressive little snowstorm this has become!

UPDATE (4:20pm): Now close to 5".

I have 4" of snow on the ground with a few more hours of snow left here. This has been a complicated storm, but overall has produced close to what was originally predicted.

14 inches during the Christmas Eve blizzard (Ok, I'll cut you a little slack since you weren't there to enjoy it) versus our 2" in Denison.

Gets a blizzard every year with at least 10 inches+. Probably is sick of shoveling it cause it's more work than fun when there's so much and doesn't melt the next day. Bring it on down!

I wound up with very close to 6" here when it was all said and done, with a few drifts up to near a foot or so. I definitely did not expect to see this much snow when I woke up this morning, but I am not complaining. Its been quite some time since I have seen a legitimate half-foot snowstorm, so this was kind of nice. Much better than if we would have received additional ice!

7" here... a nice little snowstorm. Starting to melt some today due to the sun angle. Really did enjoy the storm. It has been a while since we received a good blanket snowstorm across the region.

Wow!! I echo Steve's comment. Even though I knew there were road closures during the storm and that some areas had gotten up to a foot of snow, I didn't know it was like that!! Thanks for posting the pics.

It looks like today will once again remain sub-freezing in OKC. The forecast for today from yesterday was 36-38F, but the current temperature (as of 2pm) is 27F. With clouds overhead, it is unlikely that we will get above 30F this afternoon. Hopefully tomorrow we can finally break the freezing mark. The current forecast is calling for around 39-42F with clouds and drizzle (freezing drizzle early), but that seems like it might be a stretch. We shall see..
