There is an observation deck that is higher than the Empire State Building.I hope that this is not an atraction to the bad guys.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Dubai is set to open the world's tallest building amid tight security on Monday, celebrating the tower as a bold feat on the world stage despite the city state's shaky financial footing.

But the final height of the Burj Dubai — Arabic for Dubai Tower — remained a closely guarded secret on the eve of its opening. At more than 2,625 feet, it long ago vanquished its nearest rival, the Taipei 101 in Taiwan.

I can't even imagine living at the top of that thing. Even though I'd be inside and surrounded by 4 walls, I'd still be afraid of heights.

I would be a quivering puddle on the floor!! :double: :double: :double:
Strangely, I do ok at the ESB observation deck, but have trouble with 72 stories up with 2" thick glass between me and the outside. :?: :?:

The highest I've ever been in a building is the 8th floor (9th in US notation), and that was bad enough. No way would you get me on the observation deck.

Been on top of the Empire State Building many times. 8-) The view is cool. I remember when the World Trade Center was visible, which was impressive. God I miss them. :( Burj Dubai and Dubai skyline remind me of Coruscant from Star Wars. :cheesy:

In the Wikipedia article it said that the unveiling of the building was watched by 2 billion people worldwide live. I doubt it since I follow the news closely and didn't even hear of it until the day after. The sourced article was before it was watched so I don't know.

It's an awesome structure and I'm highly impressed at how many records it has broken. I thought it was another year or two away from being done but I guess time flies really fast.

Dubai really has a thing for big buildings. The skyline you see in those pictures is still a work in progress - if they can deal with their debt issues, there is more to come.
