srainhoutx what temperatures did Houston hit in the 83/89 winters?

And your right re this "pattern seems just a bit different." What we are getting was born in Alberta (and it sucked the Arctic air mass into it). I sure didn't expect it to come from the West.

DECEMBER OF 1989 WAS THE COLDEST MONTH IN HISTORY FOR GALVESTON... HOUSTON AND COLLEGE STATION. DECEMBER OF 1983 WAS THE SECOND COLDEST MONTH FOR THE SAME LOCATIONS
ON DECEMBER 22 1989...HOUSTON RECEIVED 1.7 INCHES OF SNOW WHILE GALVESTON RECEIVED AN INCH; IT WAS THE LAST MEASURABLE SNOW FOR EACH LOCATION
COLDEST DECEMBER TEMPERATURES EVER RECORDED ACROSS THE AREA. ON DECEMBER 23 1989...COLLEGE STATION HAD A LOW OF 2 DEGREES...HOUSTON HAD A LOW OF 7 DEGREES AND GALVESTON HAD A LOW TEMPERATURE OF 14 DEGREES
IN 1983...HOUSTON REMAINED BELOW FREEZING FOR ALMOST FIVE CONSECUTIVE DAYS WHILE COLLEGE STATION HAD MORNING LOWS IN THE TEENS FOR FIVE CONSECUTIVE MORNINGS

I might add, it was a mess. Frozen water mains and extreme damage to tropicals.

I can imagine (see the same thing here when I forget a pot or two  :( ).

I wonder if -10F is possible for Houston? (that to me would match the 120F that we hit)

Something to keep in mind......

I've got Snow and Ice Tires for Sale! :D

(but I know you folks live for those stay home days.......in my dreams that we'd ever get those here)

Our current temperature is hovering between 13-14F (about -10.25C). It will be interesting to see how low it can get by the morning. Hitting 10F (-12.2C) seems very possible.

UPDATE: We wound up reaching an overnight low of 11F (-11.7C)

I have -30F (-34.4C) right now (7:03 AM). Coldest of the season so far.

It's officially -24F downtown, but it's supposed to really warm up later this week.

Because it might snow, temperatures are supposed to be a very mild +11F by Saturday night. That will make it over 40 degrees warmer in the morning than it is right now.

We'll have to wait and see if they are right.

Got down to -4 which is the coldest so far. High today will be 5 or 6. Since the wind is calming down its not too bad.

20, high of 35.

Probably will fall to the upper teens tonight. Outlying areas will plummet down to probably around 13 or 14.

Hearing how nice it's been in S FL. Our old neighbors in the Keys have enjoyed their lobster hunting this year. I may need a trip back if this crazy weather continues here.

42 degrees @ midnight but has risen to a "balmy" 53 so far. :cheesy:

I've lived here since '95...never seen a december like this so far...7 nights have had lows above 70 in Miami (3 of those had lows of 75 deg) and the rest have been in the 60s. Normal low temps in south florida should be in the upper 50s to low 60s this time of year. It's all relative...

I have run the a/c almost every night this month so far...
