Prayer request

#1 Postby timNms » Mon Dec 07, 2009 10:45 pm

Hello everyone. I have a prayer request.
I'm a teacher that has been out of work since the end of May, 2009. I was let go from the teaching job that I had held for 2 years. The termination, if you want to call it that, was political in nature (Longgggg story). Had I only known when I was let go what I found out a month later (and too late, I might add) I would still be employed. I applied for unemployment benefits and they did an investigation and found that I was terminated without just cause. I am drawing unemployment but it is less than half what I was bringing home each month...not enough to begin to pay my monthly bills.
Anyway, I would certainly appreciate it if everyone would pray that I find a job soon. I have a BS in elementary education and a master's in education/administration & leadership. Seems no one in Mississippi will hire anyone to work in administration unless they have experience...how does one get that experience?? :)

Thanks very much for the prayers. They are greatly appreciated.

Prayers on the way. I understand where you're at. Fortunately my wife still has a job. Since we've cut way back unemployment and an occasional dip into savings is getting us by.

Ah, yeah. Thankfully my wife is working and we're getting by. I've just got to decide what I want to let go....my car or my tractor :D

Since you are on the Internet, it proves that you have some level of computer skills, so I would use that as a basis when applying for admin positions - that and your degree should be enough to get something...

Also, here's the current list of all "public" Federal positions in your state ("public" means no prior Federal experience is necessary):

http://jobsearch.usajobs.gov/search.asp ... basic.aspx

P.S. Consider the prayer request as done - many are in similar situations, that's for sure...

Have you checked craigslist? In Hattiesburg there are openings for teachers, tutors and library assistants. Get this.....a library assistant earns $18.83/hr. Obviously you are well qualified for any of these positions. You may have to do what a lot of us in Mississippi are doing......take whatever we can get and be glad to have something.

I'd be very careful with anything posted on CL - last week I happened to see a house for rent on CL that sounded very nice and e-mailed a response - only to receive a reply that asked for "full name, date of birth, employer", etc., stating "I'm out of the country right now checking on an oil bid, but would like to get someone moved in as quickly as possible"...

As it turned out, I searched the same house on the local MLS listing and found it - for $1,100 more a month, and e-mailed the realtor about the CL ad - but never received a reply, so apparently the actual MLS ad was hijacked by someone who made it into an CL ad, for identity theft purposes...

As Kevin (Home Alone) would say, "I don't think so..."

P.S. Keep trying with the well-known job search web sites (through the local newspapers), including any local hospitals, which are a very good place to start, since they usually can hire someone in a very short period of time...

And stay away from those "Make $5,000 a month!" ads, also found on CL - I can't imagine the many poor souls that willingly give their SSN to these false employers, after receiving an e-mail that says, "We can't legally get you on board without filling out a W-4!" - and after giving the number to this unknown person, is never heard from again...

Hey Tim... I don't know what it is like down there, but in Missouri you can substitute teach for quite a nice chunk of change each day. You might check that out after the holidays and see if there are schools in your area that you could sub in. I subbed for three years while going to college for my education degree.

You and your family are in my prayers during this time. Hang in there!

Thanks. I've got my name on the sub lists so hopefully I can get some work after the holidays. I worked as an assistant teacher for 3 and one-half years while working toward the BS degree. I had to quit my full time job in order to attend day classes during my last year in school since they didn't offer the classes I needed at night...so I subbed that year :)

Just thought I'd update ya'll on the job search.
I'd filled out so many applications since June that I'd forgotten who I'd applied with :D

A couple of weeks ago I got an email from a principal in a private institution that treats children with mental and behavioral issues. She asked if I was still interested in working at the institution. Of course, I picked up the phone and called her. I interviewed and was told that "I will get in touch with you next week and let you know". I figured that I could just chalk that one up to another "no".

To my surprise, I got an email a few days later saying "I'd like to offer you a job as a teacher for the remainder of the school term!"

Needless to say, I am thankful for your prayers. After having gone through the processes of being fingerprinted (3 times since the first 2 didn't take :P ), filling out hundreds of papers, having a physical, and TB skin tests, I was told that I will probably begin work the 2nd week of April. I will be working with 2nd-4th grade students who are sent to the institution from public schools due to behavior issues. Having worked with students like this before, I know what to expect. I think this will work out well.

I am employed again! Yahoooooooo.

Thanks again for your prayers!
