There had been some talk on the boards of the reasons for the colder then normal Atlantic coastal waters that had sprung up. I found this article today that talks about that:):)

Cold Atlantic Coastal waters

Being on the East coast of Florida I know that when we get SW flow across the state that it sometimes "peels" the top layer of warmer water east, allowing the cool water underneath to come to the surface. last week when we had an easterly flow the temps came back up to 81 at Ft. Pierce, while Daytona was at 69 :o They don't get the benefit of the ECSB. The flow has continued from the SW this week, keeping the waters cool. Interestingly, this will warm the upwelled cool water over time, yielding an overall increase of the mean temperature of the waters, at least in the longer term. The trade winds haven't been blowing from the east like they usually do. Once this trough moves out and the wind flow comes from the ESE, you'll see an increase in the coaster SSTs. Cheers!!
