MJO

#1 Postby Guest » Thu Aug 07, 2003 9:36 am

Okay gang - just read a post by Mike Watkins on GOPBI about the MJO coming into play for the Atlantic season. I for one would like a plain english explanation of what this is and how it affects tropical development of the storms.

I hope no one laughs at this question - but he said I quote
"The lid could come off as early as Monday or Tuesday...."

Thanks,
Patricia

The MJO (Madden-Julian Oscillation) has been currently in a dry-phase (positive) - (lack of moisture in the Tropical Atlantic) - we're expecting a neg MJO pattern to arrive soon (wet phase) and this is a moisture increase across the Tropical Atlantic.

We are just beginning to enter into another neg MJO phase.

Stormsfury - thanks for the explanation. Looks like things may start heating up in the Atlantic next week.

I think he's been busy - read a post where he moved and then had to wait a few days for internet service.

He'll be back with the first storm.
