sorry, i'm clueless and new here. what does the gray area indicate? more rain? like how many inches?

It's very heavy rain of 1 to 2 or more inches per hour. There's a color key at the bottom of that satellite image that shows the scale. Rainfall amounts heavier as you go to the right along the scale. So red is heavier than orange, for example.

Starting to rain here in Mandaluyong City...

I used to tell my kids not to cry or be afraid whenever it rains... but after my experience with the recent floodings, I think I'm going to cry louder than them this time :crying:
