DWI for a man driving a motorized La-Z-Boy

#1 Postby O Town » Fri Oct 23, 2009 6:18 am

A Proctor man driving a motorized La-Z-Boy lounge chair hit a parked vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Dennis LeRoy Anderson, 62, pleaded guilty Monday in St. Louis County District Court to DWI in connection with the Aug. 31, 2008, incident in Proctor. There were no injuries.

According to the criminal complaint, Anderson drove his motorized chair into a vehicle parked near a Proctor bar. Anderson told police he was traveling from the Keyboard Lounge after consuming approximately eight or nine beers. His blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.29 percent, more than three times the legal limit to drive.

Rest of the story here: http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/event/ ... /id/149759

Check out the picture of the chair, wow. Headlights and everything. lol. I think the 180 days jail time was a bit over the top, and they auctioned off that poor mans chair. :P I mean really the only person I think he could hurt on that thing was himself, better than being in a car that goes over 10 MPH

Awesome! There's a guy that rides around our town on a riding lawnmower. As fast as it goes, he could walk. He probably lost his license somewhere along the line.

I'm waiting for a test case on one of those powered chairs that the elderly use.

I THINK that you can get a DUI on a bicycle too.

The worst one is FWI (flying while intoxicated)......a commercial pilot carrying passengers that is caught automatically goes to jail.....I think it's a mandatory one year jail time.

I had a friend that got a DWI on a riding lawn mower while going to the liquor store. It was his third. He went to jail. Got out, got drunk again and eventually died from alcoholism related health issues.

We can joke about these things, but alcoholism is a serious disease.

That's a cool chair - built for comfort, but not necessarily for safety! But, he was driving,
and under the influence of alcohol, as well. Our local paper had a story a while back where the
driver of a motorized wheelchair veered too far out on the curb and a semi-truck swung out to
take a wide turn and somehow clipped the chair and dragged it (with the guy still on it) for
almost 1/2 mile until other drivers flagged the semi driver to stop. Fortunately, the guy
survived, being beat up pretty badly, but it shows how these things can happen - especially
if the driver is under the influence.

Dont know about anywhere else but here in VA it has to be a motorized vehicle. And the size of the motor or engine doesnt matter.

One of my neighbors lost his license for DUI; he got arrested for riding his bicycle drunk to the store in order to buy more beer  The charge: being drunk in public. A pretty minor charge compared to DUI.

The bid is over 40K right now. The bids look a bit suspicious. I purchase rare coins on eBay.....when an item is going for a lot of money there is usually a financial pre-qualification required. It doesn't appear there is this requirement on this item. The bids may be frivolous.
