His answer was one word. No.

EDIT: A second email from my buddy. I had replied to him asking if he was at liberty to discuss the event.....what the pilots are now calling the "minnie overflight"......his response as follows...

"Hell No. They were asleep, but I suppose I could be wrong...."

Ask your friend if they have the ability to turn off anything that could disturb them. If they don't then they were involved in something that everyone is trying to cover up to avoid even more embarassment for the pilots and the company.

I heard early yesterday this was coming......actually the line was..."they'll be looking for new careers"......they cannot even fly cargo now.

They would have been better off admitting to sleeping, as pilot fatigue is something that has been needing to be addressed for a long time now. Sleep is a physiological response to fatigue, pecking away on a laptop searching for the best work times is unacceptable on the flight deck. It violates flight deck protocol.

Regarding the question of the pilots being able to turn off commo with the FAA.......it's my understanding that along with voice commands there is also digital.....there is no way the pilots could have missed the digital warning with their eyes open. ATC at 3 different locations was trying to raise them.

It's really sad......31,000 hours of flight time between the two pilots.....down the drain.
