looks like the old tropical systems love to hang over the water by the looks of this track, how many times have we seen these systems do everything in their power to take the longest track possible over water or how about the one a few years ago that literally bounced on and off the southern coast of jamaica

Probably a technical problem. That sure is always a big worry when they are forced to hurry up a flight!

Yeah I like following the Recon in Google earth. Bummer that it is down. Last report I recieved through it was 18:07Z.

Could make it to hurricane strength afterall...

Potential of 5 hours over very warm water....anything is possible. We're getting clouds out of the east with brief showers.....we're 80 miles north of Pontchartrain.

Plus, looking at the Vis, it appears as though the center is now slightly exposed to the west.

If what appears to be center is in fact it....it seems to have filled in a bit and wobble north

The last few frames look like its moving just a tad north of due west? Am I imagining this or does anyone else see it too?

I know it may be a wobble...just wondering..

I was thinking the same thing, but for me it's old age and senility.

The track is certainly interesting right now, the storm is seemingly moving WNW now and is trying to get as much time over water. If it can keep going WNW then its going to get the max amount of time possible.

Also the eyewall does seem to be developing, another thing we saw rapidly occur with Humberto in 2007.

Shear a little higher near the coast, but not terrible.

Small little system. The center is just off of Apalachicola and they have a sustained wind of 24 mph with gusts to 40 mph. I don't see this as a hurricane. I think 50 mph is prudent at this time. I wouldn't expect much of a change at 5pm. I am aware that that's one obs. and winds are higher closer to the center.

shows you how subjective wabble watching of things that may or may not be the true centers can be...i see a wobble due north

Apalachicola is a very sheltered airport. It's a bit inland and surrounded by tall trees on all sides. I'm not surprised if wind obs. there are significantly reduced compared to those facing open water along the actual shore.

I think "do you see it moving west", it looks to be moving NW to me.
