ANNOUNCEMENT from WREL

#1 Postby Scott_inVA » Thu Jul 31, 2003 6:57 pm

Scott has been fired. Model maps now cost $19.95 a month.

just kidding

Actually, I want to advise of upcoming downtimes. Beginning tonight and continuing off and on thru Monday, WREL is making extensive hardware upgrades. We are installing new routers, replacing all network cards, running new cable and doing some software upgrades. Our wx station gets ripped apart for new cabling and we're installing new furniture for the weather stuff :D (finally). A redundant PC is also going in for back-up of wx data and the running the StormTrakker hurricane software.

This will require SEVERAL periods of downtime over the next 4 days. Maps may be behind schedule. If you're on the Update email list, they won't appear the same as I'll be on a crappy 10 year old laptop. We're hoping everything is done by Sunday, but please bear with us over the next 3-4 days.

We're on our own server and that is being moved to a new box shortly. That shouldn't affect anything except the usual 24-36 hours when routers repoint to the site. I'll let you know when that happens as you may not find us for a day or so

So, if you're a model map devotee, hang in there while we get everything done. I hope the new StormTrakker software is available in the next week or so as that will really make the maps look better, too.

thanks

Scott

Thanks for the heads-up Scott! We just went through a similar thing at work. Lots of work but in the end things will be better than ever! :-)

Thanks for sharing that with us, Scott ... I also have the Stormtrakker 6 Beta (in which I had asked you for the download site) and with the upcoming time off - vacation time coming up starting this Saturday, I can post maps - though not as thorough as yours - in your absence until the WREL server upgrades are complete ...

Scott, they need him more at NHC....then when "Great One" aka GOFLOCK :D critisizes their forecast, your son can open a can of whoop#ss on him.

Heck, I can just hear ole GOFROG :D crying for his mommy now
