Any hints on next winter?
Just thought I'd stir up the WW pot a little bit and throw out a post on whether anyone has seen other's thoughts or has any of their own thoughts about what sort of winter might be brewing in 2009/2010 for the U.S.

Re: Any hints on next winter?
I don't know about WW. But today when I walked out my back door, I noticed the first acorn (green) of the season! That's significant to me, as last summer/fall in our area there were NO acorns in huge portions of the state. So the acorn tree experts were running around wondering what this meant: disease, ruin of trees, viral attack. DH, who is a naturalist, said he thought it was probably mother nature in a swing mode. Hope he's right and I was real glad to see that simple acorn.
Isn't tonight the summer equinox?

I'm hoping we get a much snowier winter in central Oklahoma this go around. Last winter was too dry and we had very few significant winter events.

JB has alluded to a wild and crazy and early Winter, apparently to be expected with the warm ENSO starting to fade during the Winter months.

Houston's December 10th snow miracle. Remember, snow miracles occur far more often in Houston than direct hurricane hits.

Pretty sure he does that every year.Ed Mahmoud wrote:JB has alluded to a wild and crazy and early Winter, apparently to be expected with the warm ENSO starting to fade during the Winter months.
I hope he's right though, a colder than average winter with a low riding jet stream through the South would be interesting.

Re: Any hints on next winter?
I've read that El Nino is likely this winter, and I also read some article about how north/west texas see more snow during El Nino winters. So hopefully that's a good sign.

And here in northern Minnesota we feel like summer hasn't even arrived yet - only a couple of days over 90 all season. My electricity bill has been more managable, but I like being able to complain about the heat as well as the cold in MN!
Not this year though!

A brutal one, with numerous record highs set and outrageous electricity bills.... over $350 to about $430 - several months in a row.
It's been way too hot down here... even low 90s yesterday. I'm ready for some cold weather!
