Thanks for your insight into St Kitts, Dionne. I appreciate it very much!

It's really negative across the Caribbean and Gulf currently.

I'm not going to wish for any huge named storms either...but some rain surely would not hurt our area. We've had a total of 1.80 in the last 51 days. Daily temps have been in the mid to upper 90's the past few days and the water at the beach is very, very warm.

Record highs around here today. 97 degrees here and it only gets hotter as you go north. No doubt that the water is cookin'.

The green grass that was here now is turning brown again.

1983 was interesting. We had come off of a strong El Nino, strongest before 1997-1998. The West Pacific and Atlantic were less active. The Atlantic was one the least active since 1950. The East Pacific was hyperactive.

The East Pacific season will likely see its first named storm shortly as TD 02E has formed.

Still though, the giant cold Low spinning off the east coast is so big it sort of shows how conditions are hostile to tropical development.

It's so bad in the Atlantic that the best thing to look at is a giant extratropical cyclone!!!

I gotta say that I can't remember the last time I experienced such dry weather in June. Daily temps are around 34C/93F, and we've had forest fires breaking out on the hills.......ashes everywhere and a couple homes lost too! The satellite this morning shows a wave passing through my area (SE Caribbean) likely tomorrow. Man, I'll be happy for some rain to cool down this place. And who knows? Maybe the sleepy Atlantic is coming out of slumber. I guess we'll have to wait and see....

I was talking to Phil Klotzbach about this earlier this month. The ITCZ seems to be quite far south compared to normal for June. Sort of similar to 2004. There's just not much moisture making it north of 10N into the eastern Caribbean.

Yes wxman57, I had noticed this too. And could not help but observe the sad co-relation between this low-lying ITCZ and the demise of Flight 447 across the Atlantic.
To my eye, it seems that the ITCZ is now gaining latitude, and is now nearer the Guianas. I gather it'll soon settle in. In the meantime, we've finally had good rain this past couple hours, and the boom of thunder tells me that the approaching wave is alive. Perhaps our 2009 season has begun in earnest.

Not worth a separate thread, but there's a serious hook echo under that curl forming in the convection pulse off Miami. I bet there's a nice strong waterspout under it. I'd almost think it was formation if it wasn't moving so fast:

Its so quiet (June 29th) that the worldwide tropical basins are without even a invest.
