Re: SE TX/SW LA winter wx: Early/False spring?

I think there is a good chance we are having an early spring and we're done with freezes for this winter season.

If it holds, our last official freeze was recorded on January 29th, over a full month before the average last freeze date!

We managed 31.6ºF here at the house this morning. Definitely a late freeze for our area, but nothing we haven't seen before. We just haven't seen it in a long time that I remember. Tomorrow should be just as cold or colder.

My low the last two mornings has been 34F. Guess I got lucky, no late freeze for me :-)

Also looks like Bush had a low of 34F as well.

Frost this morning on the NW side of Harris County. Not heavy, but yet another frost for my area.

Light frost on the car.

Um, is there anyway one of you guys could ask one of the Admins about changing the watching eye avatar. It isn't a bad looking eye, but it makes me nervous.

Thanks.

More cold weather is on it's way for the middle of this month.

How cold? (and if it's the middle of the month, plenty of time for that to change)

I was ready for spring, then a few days of sweating while working outside and I decided the cold (cool) could stick around a little longer. The last few days have been nice, but yeah... I guess... still ready for spring.

It was 30 and 31 this morning at the two closest Instaweather/Weatherbug stations to my east and west. Last freeze here, I bet, although tonight could get close.

Nothing dramatic with highs in the low 60's and lows in the 40's for the middle of this month.
Until then we will be in a prolonged warm (upper 70's to maybe low 80's) spell starting on Friday and through next week. Of course we all know this is subject to change.

42 here right now. I don't think it got much colder than this last winter. It's to warm up to a pleaseant 63. How nice will our electric bills be with this beautiful weather we're to have this week!

39 degrees at Hooks this morning for a official temp in Tomball. May see the first frost of the season tomorow around here. :cold:

Time to wake this thread up!

18z GFS still on board for wintry weather in SE TX/Southern LA this weekend! I know the 12z GFS was the first run to show this but we now have something to back it up with the 18z showing a similar evolution. Crazy this is only 5 days out not the usual 10+.

Ahh. memories of last December when the GFS latched on to the December 10-12 surprise a few days prior. :P

By few days... did you happen to look up exactly how many prior it started showing it? If not, I'll try to find it in a search. I was telling my sister about the 12z GFS (for giggles, ya know ;) ) and we got on the subject of the amazing snow last December and were wondering how many days out the GFS (or any model, really) started picking up on it.

:uarrow:

If I recall it was about 4-5 days out. There were many totally throwing the solution out as the Upper Air column was not showing anything good for snow growth, but we now know how it played out.

I went to look at the models before I came here and to say the least, my jaw was on the floor! I will wait a few days to get too excited, but   . One thing I have noticed, which we have discussed a little Steve is that the models are still trending colder and colder. I was thinking before I opened up the models-I wonder if they have now pulled the Arctic air down towards the weekend and sure enought-Bam! there it was right in front of me. If the moisture is available this could be a wild weekend in SE TX. Most definitely going to be following a lot of things closely for a few days!! At a minimum it appears we will get our first area-wide freeze by the weekend. :cold: :froze:
Another thing we still have to consider and that could easily be a "killer of fun" is the fact that there has to be a good deal of modification of this cold air with very little snow cover to our North still. Still will be interesting to watch and prognosticate about.

Going to get crazy now! All major Weather OCM in the area are now mentioning the possibility of snow.
