Singer Chris Brown was arrested and charged with making criminal threats on Sunday for an early morning attack on an unidentified woman widely thought to be his girlfriend, pop star Rihanna. The Los Angeles Times and several celebrity Web sites reported Monday that the woman in the incident is Rihanna.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that Rihanna was "reportedly hospitalized with bruises on her face," while other reports mentioned the bruises but did not say she had been hospitalized. Rihanna's spokesman on Sunday said only that the singer was "well."
Los Angeles police officer Karen Smith says Brown walked into a station around 7 p.m. and was being interviewed by detectives. He released on $50,000 bail, according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement. On Monday, he was reportedly holed up in an Los Angeles hotel Monday. His PR team has not commented on the arrest.
Police booked the 19-year-old R&B singer and dancer on suspicion of making a criminal threat, a felony. Police did not explain how their initial report of an injury assault related to the charge, but it will ultimately be up to the district attorney's office to decide what charges, if any, should be brought against Brown. The case was expected to be referred to the D.A.'s office Monday.
Police say the singer and a woman were in a vehicle in the Hancock Park neighborhood at around 12:30 a.m. PT Sunday, following a pre-Grammys party honoring producer

Clive Davis, when they began arguing, and the argument escalated when they got out of the car.
"After stopping his car, Brown and the woman got out and the argument escalated," the police said. "The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker."
Police received a 911 call reporting the disturbance and according to the statement, when officers arrived they found the victim, but Brown had already left the scene.
Both Brown and Rihanna were no-shows for Sunday night's Grammy Awards. Both were nominated and scheduled to perform.
Meanwhile on Monday, Wrigley announced today they are suspending its ad campaign for Doublemint gum featuring Chris Brown.
Wrigley said in a statement, "We have made the decision to suspend the current advertising featuring Brown and any related marketing communications until the matter is resolved."
The company would not go as far as saying they are dropping him completely, saying Brown should be "afforded the same due process as any citizen."

Brown choked Rihanna, threatened to kill her: reports
February 12, 2009 - 10:43AM
New details have emerged about US singer Chris Brown's alleged attack on his popstar girlfriend, Rihanna.
According to E! Online, Rihanna told police that her boyfriend threatened to kill her and then choked her until she lost consciousness.
Brown, 19, was arrested last Sunday night after surrendering to police, who sought the R&B singer when a woman identified him as her attacker during a fight the night before.
Police have not named the woman, but numerous media outlets, citing sources and police officials, have identified the woman as 20-year-old Rihanna, Brown's longtime girlfriend.
The celebrity couple reportedly started fighting in Brown's rented Lamborghini following a star-studded pre-Grammy party late Saturday.
Law enforcement sources said the fight started when Brown received a text message from a woman while he was driving with Rihanna, showbiz website TMZ.com reported on Wednesday.
When Brown pulled over in a swank Los Angeles neighbourhood, Rihanna grabbed the car keys and threw them out the window, E! reported.
After struggling to find the keys, Brown then allegedly wrapped his hands around his girlfriend's neck and screamed, "I'm going to kill you".
Rihanna reportedly told police she lost consciousness and woke up to find Brown gone.
Brown allegedly hit Rihanna so hard with his fists, she could barely open her eyes because they were almost completely swollen shut, TMZ reported.
Police photographs showed she had a fat lip, her mouth was swollen, her nose was badly bloodied, and she had contusions on her forehead and both sides of her face, TMZ said.
Police were called by a neighbour and took Rihanna to hospital in a squad car.
Brown was arrested on suspicion of making a criminal threat and police have said that prosecutors would determine what charges, if any, were warranted.
He is free on $US50,000 ($76,000) bail, pending a court hearing on March 5.
Prosecutors have ordered police to continue their investigation into the incident, which could be a sign that more serious charges are being weighed.

Wow, her dad's homeless!
Did the media really have to do that?
Where do they come up with this stuff? Oh well... I guess this sort of thing can be expected once you have a superstar in the family.

Re: Rihanna allegedly assaulted by Chris Brown
Well, hopefully Chris Brown spends some time behind bars for this, and I won't have to hear his horrible music anymore.
That shouldn't be a problem, an act disgusting as this will cause him to lose alot of fans.
IMO, you can't sink much lower than hitting a woman.

I guess "older" is in the eye of the beholder.
Even at a young age, in this world of information in which we live today, you have heard a lot of things by 22.

Radio stations are starting to pull his songs off the airwaves. Funny, yet they won't pull songs of artists that have done far worse and have lyrics about smoking marijuana and shooting cops. This incident should have no affect on his work, if we banned everyone whose ever had legal issues, there would be no music on the radio.

Throw this piece of trash in jail.
Or better yet, put him in a locked room with Jay-Z, who is allegedly ready to beat him half to death.

Rihanna and Chris Brown are back together, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.
The pair have reunited almost three weeks after Brown, 19, allegedly battered the "Umbrella" singer on Feb. 8, a source tells PEOPLE.
"They're together again. They care for each other," says the source. The on-again couple are currently spending time together at one of Sean "Diddy" Combs's homes.
Adds the source: "While Chris is reflective and saddened about what happened, he is really happy to be with the woman he loves."
In its latest issue, PEOPLE reports that Brown called Rihanna on her 21st birthday one week ago. "He called to wish her happy birthday," a source told the magazine. "They've reached out to each other. It's been mutual."
Brown was booked by LAPD for making criminal threats but the case has not yet been presented to the District Attorney, who will ultimately determine which charges, if any, will be prosecuted.

I hope this isn't true because it would mean that Rihanna has fallen into the all too familiar pattern of battered women clinging to their abusive partners. Not that people can't change but these sorts of incidences are rarely one time occurrences and the abuser will likely strike again. Someone needs to have a serious heart-to-heart to with her.
