TV Ratings: CBS Steels Sunday Win from Globes, '24'
Steelers-Chargers playoff game enough to give CBS the top spot
January 12, 2009
Fast National ratings for Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009
The Golden Globes returned to at least some of their past glory, and "24" got off to a solid start, but an NFL playoff game helped CBS grab the night's ratings crown.
CBS averaged a 10.2 rating/16 share for the night (including live sports, so its numbers will probably change some). NBC took second with an 8.2/12. ABC, 6.2/10, came in third, followed by FOX at 5.5/8. The CW mustered only a 0.7/1.
In the adults 18-49 demographic, CBS' 4.9 rating led the field, topping NBC's 4.1. ABC, 3.5, edged FOX, 3.4, for third, while The CW was way back at 0.4.
The conclusion of the Pittsburgh Steelers-San Diego Chargers playoff game on CBS scored a huge 17.1/27 at 7 p.m. NBC took second in households with its Golden Globes red carpet special, 4.8/9, but ABC drew more viewers with "America's Funniest Home Videos," 4.7/7. A pair of "Simpsons" reruns averaged 2.4/4 for FOX. The CW aired a "Jericho" repeat.
CBS held the overall lead at 8 p.m. as "60 Minutes," 9.6/14, narrowly beat the first hour of the Golden Globes, 9.4/14 (NBC did lead among adults 18-49). The long-delayed seventh season of "24" debuted to a 7.0/10 on FOX. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" earned a 5.9/9 for ABC. The CW went with a showing of the movie "Carrie."
The Golden Globes dipped to 9.0/13 at 9 p.m. but won the hour for NBC over ABC's "Desperate Housewives," 8.5/13. "Cold Case," 7.8/11, gave CBS third place in households, but "24," 7.1/10, brought more viewers to FOX. The CW finished its night with the conclusion of "Carrie."
At 10 p.m., the Golden Globes peaked with a 9.4/15. "The Unit," 6.5/11, grabbed second for CBS over ABC's "Brothers & Sisters," 5.8/9.

Re: What are you watching this winter?
No surprise there.
Well President Bush will mess up primetime one final time on Thursday. He's giving a farewell address at 8pm ET for 10-15 minutes.
ABC is pre-empting Ugly Betty, and running a Scrubs repeat after the speech. Grey's and Private Practice will air on time.
CBS is delaying everything by 15 minutes(the only network doing so). CSI features Grissom's final episode.
NBC is pre-empting Kath and Kim and running My Name is Earl's new episode at 8:30 with the rest of the lineup from 9-11 on time.
FOX is pre-empting the Bones Thursday premiere til next week and just running repeats of Kitchen Nightmares.
Also next week for the inauguration, ABC is pre-empting all of primetime for coverage. CBS has an hour at 9 and NBC at 10.

I like The Mentalist!
Question - did anyone see Without a Trace last night? It was the episode with the guy who used to play Michael in Melrose Place and the weeping statue of St. Theresa of the little flower. I fell asleep in the last ten minutes and didn't see how it ended

TV Ratings: 'American Idol' Opens to 30 Million Viewers
That's down from last year's premiere but still pretty darn big
January 14, 2009
Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009
The return of "American Idol" catapulted FOX to the top of the ratings Tuesday, while it looks like CBS may have found another "Idol"-proof show to go with "NCIS."
FOX averaged a 15.8 rating/23 share for the night, comfortably beating CBS' 10.2/16. NBC was a distant third at 5.6/9. ABC, 3.7/6, came in fourth, while The CW came in at 1.2/2.
FOX completely dominated the adults 18-49, drawing an 11.6 rating and beating the combined total of the other four nets. CBS took second at 3.5, followed by NBC at 3.3. ABC averaged 2.3 and The CW 0.8.
The season eight premiere of "American Idol" scored a 14.5/22 for FOX at 8 p.m. "NCIS" did its usual strong business for CBS, earning an 11.3/17. "The Biggest Loser: Couples" (5.0/8) held up reasonably well for NBC. "Homeland Security USA" put ABC in fourth, while "90210" managed only a 1.5/2 for The CW.
"Idol" improved to 17.1/25 at 9 p.m. The premiere averaged just a shade over 30 million viewers, which is down about 10 percent from last year but still makes it the biggest non-sports broadcast of the season so far. "The Mentalist" held onto nearly all of its lead-in audience, scoring an 11.1/16. "The Biggest Loser" rose to 5.8/8 in its second hour. An hour of "Scrubs" got smacked by the "Idol" train, averaging a 2.8/4. "Privileged" finished the night for The CW.
CBS moved to the lead at 10 p.m. thanks to "Without a Trace," 8.0/13. "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" posted a 6.1/10 for NBC, and "Primetime: What Would You Do?" delivered a 4.6/8 for ABC.

NBC Resets Spring Schedule
'Kings,' 'Southland,' Amy Poehler all get premiere dates
By Rick Porter
January 15, 2009
NBC's spring schedule underwent a pretty sizable makeover Thursday with the official announcement of a new drama from producer John Wells, a new night for "Kings" and a premiere date for Amy Poehler's comedy.
The Wells show, "Southland," will debut at 10 p.m. ET Thursday, April 9, taking over for "ER" after that series ends its 15-year run on April 2. That date is three weeks later than initially planned; the network earlier decided to tack on three episodes to the final season, leading up to a two-hour finale on the second.
"Southland," which stars Ben McKenzie ("The O.C."), Regina King ("Ray"), Michael Cudlitz ("Life," "Grosse Pointe Blank") and Tom Everett Scott ("Saved," "ER") as LAPD officers, has a six-episode order and will fill out the timeslot through the end of the season.
# NBC Makes Post-Super Bowl Plans
Its scheduling on Thursday nights means that "Kings," which was to have taken the 10 p.m. Thursday spot, will move to Sunday nights. It will now premiere with a two-hour episode on Sunday, March 15 and will settle into the 8 p.m. timeslot the following week.
The Amy Poehler show, which still doesn't have a title, does now have a premiere date. The show, a mockumentary in which she plays a local government functionary with big ambitions, will debut at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, leading into "The Office." The show was created by "Office" executive producers Greg Daniels and Mike Schur.
NBC has also scheduled its cooking competition "Chopping Block" -- which had been set for summer -- to premiere at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 11. The show, hosted by renowned British chef Marco Pierre White, challenges couples to open and run a restaurant in New York.

January 19, 2009
Fast National ratings for Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009
CBS' final NFL telecast of the season was a big one, utterly dominating Sunday night's ratings.

LOST only decent numbers. For anyone who doesn't watch, start from the beginning and watch this show.
BEST
SHOW
EVER
It's genius.
It's complicated, though. It's not really for the casual watcher, IMO, although I know people who just watch it week to week and love it, without getting involved in trying to come up with theories, reading other people's theories and trying to figure it all out, etc.
Anyway, I guess I don't really care how many people watch it as long as nobody makes me stop.
