I got laid off in August 1998 from Baker Hughes when I was living in Lafayette. Louisiana unemployment insurance is not generous...

This wild swing in crude prices has been very interesting. The highest I paid was $5.08 per gallon of gasoline, just before Ike made landfall. The lowest we have paid changes every day. It's under two bucks right now. Gasoline is all of a sudden no longer a concern when bidding jobs with distance.

Makes you wonder how the folks rich enough to afford Hybrid cars feel right now? This has been a wake up call. Americans pretty much let the world know that we're willing and capable of walking to the grocery store. :flag:

On the other hand, remember the vastly larger number of families who now can afford to put food on the table precisely because of the decreasing prices...

I've seen quite a few stations below $2.00 the past few days.... the lowest being $1.95. The drop will save us hundreds of dollars each month.

The price per barrel is too low. Funny how we complain about the price of gas but we're willing to pay over $4 for a gallon of milk.

Milk here is back under $3. Regardless, how many gallons per day of milk do you use?

$10 per barrel is too low, but $60 is too high.

We can go thru 3 gallons a week which is a good bit. There's alot of times where i use more gallons of milk than i do gas.

$60 is not too high, not when you figure in the cost of inflation. In fact if you figure in the cost of inflation i'd bet that gas should probably be higher than $2/gallon at the pump.

3.5 years ago, nobody was saying that $50 per barrel was too low

with inflation, maybe 55-60 per barell is about right. If we start seeing drops to the 20 I herad that Trump thinks it will go to... then that would be too low

OTOH low oil prices have their upside in the International arena as they make harder for people like Vlad the Impaler (putin), Ahmanutjob and good old Hugo to cause trouble. Need money for all those fancy gadgets.

Prices are continuing to drop here, although not as sharply.

On base it's $2.533/gal. Off-base it's roughly $5.556/gal

Part of the problem with lower oil prices, at least in energy capitals like Houston, is that layoffs are starting to happen or will soon, which will put a major hurt on the economy of our area.

Unfortunately for some, it will start to rise again soon, as refineries convert to producing heating oil for the winter. I really never noticed the difference too much but I can understand how hard it was for some.

Unfortunately, it's just another part of the big domino effect of this economic crisis. :(

I paid $1.70 for regular this evening. I love the lower prices and it's at least one saving grace for all of us that drive, especially long distances. I do hate how it is affecting the hard working people in the industry. It would be one thing if it was just that industry and there were other jobs out there that people to get. THERE'S NOTHING. I NEVER thought that the price of gasoline would get below $2.00 again. I was hoping for it to at least drop to somewhere below $3.00.

It's just scary to see how EVERYTHING is being impacted in such a major way. I'm envisioning an earthquake and large buildings just crumbling to the ground.

The price of oil will be dependent on the length and depth of the recession. If the recession is long and deep then oil will be cheap (provided there is not a war) for a while. As soon as the recovery starts then will the price of oil start to rise. Enjoy the cheap oil while it lasts.....MGC
