The REALLY FUNNY thing is that out of the tri-state area of PA, NJ and DE, NJ's average is the lowest and we do have only full serve gas stations. Angelwing is right, our gas tax is much lower than the surrounding states, but the gas stations are also paying for labor to pump the gas. Go figure!

Actually, we do have some large refineries in this area like Valero and Sunoco, so it probably helps us with our supply.

For the record, I've NEVER pumped my own gas - EVER!

And I cant remember the last time someone pumpled my gas for me. Probably the last time I was in NJ in 2000.

 I guess it is a matter of perspective. Whenever I travel to Europe, the price of 'petrol' always shocks me. But, people live much closer to their place of work and there is good public transportation available to almost everybody in Europe. That isn't the case here in the U.S. We developed many areas based on the idea that cheap gas would last forever. whoops. Urban sprawl has come back to bite us.

$2.51.

Gas is cheap here in Texoma because Oklahoma has the cheapest average gas price in the nation which has a downward pressure here just across the Red River. Down in the Metroplex prices are a good $0.30-$0.60 cents more expensive per gallon. Almost worth the 40-mile drive!

My folks said gas is around $2.79/gal near their home in Missouri.

Here, on base it is $3.69/gal. Off base, it is €1.37/l (or roughly $7.125/gal)

At WAWA in Philly it's $3.03, but right outside Philly in Bensalem I saw it for $2.97. Right over the bridge in NJ it was $2.73...30 cent difference!

I believe some of that is the EPA mandate in cities that occassionally exceed ozone limits for oxygenated fuel. They used to use MTBE, but that chemical, if it leaked from underground gasoline tanks, could make well water taste nasty in very small concentrations. Now they use ethanol, about 10%, as an additive, and even with massive government subsidies. Ethanol is not cost competitive. DFW, Houston and the El paso areas are all EPA ozone non-compliance areas.

Ethanol is also difficult to ship via pipeline, because it absorbs water and rust.

Ethanol would make more sense, and justify dedicated pipelines, if we could make it the Brazilian way from sugar cane. If one thinks of ethanol as a form of solar energy, Brazil (and semi-tropic regions like South Louisiana and Florida) have an advantage in sunlight and moisture over Iowa and Kansas.

$2.66 for regular today.

It's great to read that the price of gas is dropping across the country and everyone is benefiting from that.

Local gas prices for the upcoming week were released today. (They change the price on base once a week...)

On base we're paying $3.360/gal (down about 33 cents from last week).
Off base the price is €1.269/l or about $6.457/gal (down about 67 cents from last week).
