Okay....now I've got some additional thinking to do.

Very good post, prayers for your family from Charlotte too. Go see your mother.

Thanks for the kind words and prayers. I've got a 7+ hour drive from Western, SC. They live on the mainland facing Harkers Island. There are 2 inlets between them so storm surge is usually not an issue. The last hurricane we rode out was Alex in 2004, and it wasn't bad at all. It's looking like Hanna may be similar in strength.

Thanks again![/quote]

Gov. Mike Easley today announced he is activating the N.C. National Guard and other state resources to be ready to respond to Tropical Storm Hanna, which is expected to affect the state on Friday and Saturday.

I'm pretty sure that's Hanna - at the 48 hrs mark something is right on the FL E coast and then at 168 hrs Ike brushes the SEFL coast

With Ike racing up behind Hanna, it looks like he's getting pretty close now. Hanna is finally moving, but does anyone this that these two might interact in some way? Or is Hanna finally moving fast enough to get clear from Ike?

i was just thinking the samething, if it is not a florida issue they just walk away, its like the rest of us dont matter, well we will all stick together on this. i think NC is in for is in for a windy day on sat, what do you think?

I think the problem is that most of us in FL (esp S FL) have shifted to Ike as we're bordering on the NHC's 5 day cone as of 11am this morning. Once things settle down a bit, most of us check storms that are out there, no matter where they're headed. Human nature, though, is to be most concerned by that which will most affect you/your area.

Hanna should accelerate in a general NW then N then NE direction from this point onward. Should be clear of area in plenty of time. Hanna may have pooled up some upwelled cool water and what sort of pressure area is left behind may be the question.

i wonder if the center is pretty broad...

we have two stations reporting pressures of 991 and 993 respectively to the north of that fix, (at 21.9/ 72.1) and plane hasn't gone thru these areas yet

http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/78114.html

will be very interested to see the plane go thru that area

sorry , i just logged back on and realized they found the center where i posted earlier that i suspected they would ( after they inititially reported it further south)

pressure at this station rose after hanna moved north just to this location's east.

pressure started to dip a little there (as hanna moves away to the north) telling me hanna may be intensifying a bit

now that they finally have a correct center point they can plot the movement and speed better

to me it looks like it is moving N/NNE at about 10 degrees at around 5 mph (i think southerly shear gives impression it is moving faster)

Hmm Hanna seems to have deepened somewhat with the center being near the deep convection for the last 6hrs has obviously helped it out.

Also as others said don't be surprised if this develops very strongly in the 24hrs pre landfall, I could well lower cat-2 as it starts to swing around to a NE heading just as it heads inland.

Another North Carolinian checking in here. We moved to New Bern in June, so we've never been here for a storm and we're not sure what to expect if Hanna heads this way. We live right on the Neuse river, as in it's down a hill, about 75 feet from our back door. We moved here from Homestead/Miami. Went through Katrina, Wilma etc. down there. We still own our house down there (Don't you just love this housing market!) so we're watching all of the storms closely!

BTW, off topic, but I got to tour the NHC last year in September with my 8th grade students. It was a pretty impressive place. Really cool to get to go there after watching/reading them for so many years!
