Told the wife that things were looking better for us because most models were in agreement about landfall around SC/GA border. Then movement NW into western NC. Of course this would be for enough west as not to affect the Outer Banks at all. I also told her the ride up the east coast seems to be out. I am hoping I'm right. I don't wish this on anyone, but the models are looking better for us. Also, it would be a much better scenario if she does go inland and dies. (looks like a fish is out of the question, but there's always hope).

I wonder whats causing ukmet to stick with a SFL landfall when all the other models are taking it north? It just seems odd considering the ukmet is causing a pretty large gap in the model consensus

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
407 PM EDT MON SEP 1 2008
..RESIDENTS AND VISITORS OF MAINLAND SOUTH FLORIDA SHOULD CLOSELY
MONITOR THE LATEST FORECAST UPDATES ON HURRICANE HANNA...

THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER CURRENTLY FORECASTS HURRICANE HANNA
TO MOVE INTO THE NORTHERN BAHAMAS BY THURSDAY MORNING. ON THIS
TRACK...HANNA WOULD BRING TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS TO THE ATLANTIC
WATERS OFF THE PALM BEACH COUNTY COAST. NORTHEAST TO NORTH WINDS
WILL BE INCREASING ACROSS THE ATLANTIC WATERS THROUGH MID
WEEK...RESULTING IN INCREASING SURF...A CONTINUATION OF DANGEROUS
RIP CURRENTS...BEACH EROSION...ALONG WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR MINOR
COASTAL FLOODING.

ON THE CURRENT FORECAST TRACK...TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS WOULD REMAIN
OFFSHORE. HOWEVER...JUST A SLIGHT WESTWARD SHIFT IN THE TRACK WOULD
MEAN THAT TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS COULD IMPACT PORTIONS OF
MAINLAND SOUTH FLORIDA...ESPECIALLY PALM BEACH...BROWARD...AND
MIAMI-DADE COUNTIES. FOR THIS REASON...RESIDENTS AND VISITORS OF
MAINLAND SOUTH FLORIDA SHOULD CLOSELY MONITOR THE LATEST FORECAST
UPDATES ON HURRICANE HANNA.

Now that Hanna is beginning to make her loop, we need to watch the departing low to the north, to see when the ridge will start building back in.

Why did they issue that as a special statement instead of just waiting for the 5pm advisory?

That was released by the NWS office in Miami, not the NHC

Hanna is definitely cranking up now. Very nice CDO forming. I wouldn't be surprised to see an eye feature show up in the not too distant future.(have to admint I haven't looked at ir or radar though). The only thing atm that might be a hinderance could be upwelling due to the current cyclonic loop she is in.

Aren't they in the same building on the FIU campus?

There's another circulation center apparent on IR near 21N-73W - since this is not the LLC (22.4N-72.6W) it must be an MLC. If so, Hanna is decoupled and probably won't strengthen until she gets fully stacked.

I find it interesting that the NWS only mentioned that a slight westward track shift would bring tropical storm conditions to S FL. Are they avoiding saying hurricane conditions?

lets hope

she's may be busy building a "nest" for her eye to reside soon

lets hope high shear gets there first (look at those streaks just NE of florida) the battle will be on soon?

upwelling i would not think is a concern... the warm waters run relatively deep there (some of the highest TCHP in the atlantic) but definitely worth watching

Looks to be about 80kts right now, very impressed with the way Hanna has strengthened, I doubt think anyone really saw this coming.

Long loop of IR does show that shear has increased again over Hanna however though the center is stil under the convection.

ron jon ........pretty sure that is just an illusion by NW shear pushing Se and clouds tops trying to fan out SW

Well yeah Fl would get some rain from Hanna as she move up the coast. She is a big girl. You would get some of the west side
