Either MSNBC or CNN was showing a reporter standing on a bridge overlooking the port. Can't remember which one, since I'm kind of flipping around to various channels. The reporter said signs that are about eight feet off the ground are almost completely under water.

Yikes -- that's getting dangerously close.

All I can say it that the cameramen that are taping the Industrial Canal had better start packing up. The water looks to be almost at the top of the levee.

New Orleans, Slidell area, and the MS coast is just getting pounded right now. Hope everyone took this storm seriously.

I'm very surprised at the intensity of the winds in Gulfport. The east side of this storm was juiced up.

Standing in the west bound lane of HWY 90, you can see the east bound is completely submerged as well as the top of the sea wall... winds had to be blowing 50 mph when I took this pix..

From what FrankP is saying this is probably the peak.

Hey guys just a quickie. Out of power here in BR. Got my generator going though. 30-40 sustained maybe with higher gusts but nothing major at all. I'm worried about Houma. Dad is there for work. Any news from that area?

WWL reporting barges loose in the river near St. Charles Parish water intake, may have damaged the intake, barges appear to be stuck now, they were blown upriver toward the 310 bridge but haven't reached it.
Scary images of Industrial Canal floodwall being overtopped by breaking small waves on WWL video now. CNN was also carrying this station's video nationwide.

I have a friend directly on the Northshore of Slidell, in an area that had at least 8 feet of flooding in Katrina. He stayed for this one, said that its basically a non-event this time around, some limbs down, some hard rain. They were sitting in the kitchen playing cards, and report no issues or concerns.

Heard that too. He said it was "squirting out from the bottom of the levee." Police were leaving and told them to leave. That doesn't sound good.

It's been in the north eyewall for over an hour now.

That's where Jim Cantore is right now and they had to take shelter due to the damage going on outside.
