Welp, just my 2 cents, but I always thought you had to have an eyewall to have an eye. At least, that's the chili pepper definition.

They are right, there is no classical eye in terms of a ring of concentrated heavy convection rotating around the center of lowest pressure. There is a LLC but it is fairly broad and spread out.

I dont know Ed, if you look at radar you can see you large "eye" contracting...should keep getting smaller and smaller, it already is strengthening, went up to 50 mph..we'll see...

To have an eye it needs an eyewall. An eyewall is a solid and intense band of convection and rain around the center which this obviously doesn't have.

Hopefully, Fay won't wrap up any tighter and get any stronger. The rain is going to be enough! The FL Panhandle is actually in a rainfall deficit. However, we in Mobile are almost 3" above normal. Here are the numbers from a newstory on WKRG.com (http://www.wkrg.com/hurricane/article/fay_facts/17118/):
We need the rain in the Florida Panhandle:
• Pensacola, FL: year to date: 36.74" (-6.92") down 16%
• Tallahassee, FL: year to date: 35.87" (-8.8") down 20%
• Apalachicola, FL: year to date: 30.07" (-5.4") down 16%
• Montgomery, AL: year to date: 32.33" (-4.87") down 14%
• Mobile, AL: year to date: 47.45" (+2.73")

I just hope we don't get another Danny. That was awful!
BTW, my DH is sooooooooo disappointed that Fay is going to probably rain out a karaoke party we were supposed to go to tomorrow evening! NOT! He said this is the only time he's ever been thankful for a tropical storm! That bad, bad man of mine!

So True, Ed

There are many in this forum that provide vast knowledge and help us "commoners" out. The Pro Mets tie all of the observations together and share their expertise with nothing to gain. They volunteer to provide us with information that would otherwise come with an annual fee and/or falsehoods. I love being able to share correct information with my family and friends.

My thanks to Storm2k for providing a forum in which the pro mets want to participate.

God bless those who know more than I, for taking time from their lives and families to provide insight and guidance

This storm is the craziest I have ever seen. I though Elana was whacko, but Fay takes the cake. Also how many storms do you see where the major windfield is to the south? I can't remember any recently.

That would be cool if this went left of track and got stronger. That would get some talk going.

Is anyone else in Pensacola hearing the very loud constant rumbles of thunder outside, we are off of 9 mile rd. It just started about 5 mins ago. I thought we were a few hours away from Faye at this point.

Now, now that's not nice. She aleady has gone a little left, and has gotten a bit stronger. She is fine right where she is.

Right, then. I know who to thank now! :grr: :P

FWIW, I don't think Fay has had a proper eye for quite a few days now. It might appear to be an eye, but it just isn't so.

Anyone know why the convection seems to be thinning as the bands move offshore from the north. I would have thought that the water would have given them a boost. Also it seems to me that the main band that was over the Atlantic for the past few days is now passing over the whole length if Florida and maybe robbing her of moisture. Do any of you think that once it gets over the Gulf this thing might get cranked up?
