Clearing out .....
The end of the Claudette saga here in Baytown - we are the clearing stages as she moves to the west inland. Looks like she has left her mark on alot of people from Galveston to Port O'Conner. Can't wait to get home to see the news reports.
Hope everyone is doing ok - katdaddy, clint, nelson, galveston duck, houstonia, vbhoutex, garnet, eb, jabman, OtherHD, dvdsgirl, johnny and to anyone else I might have forgetten from the Houston area.

Hey Ticka, I'm here. No problems up my way. Just breezy conditions and a good soaker. Most of the action was South of I-10 but we still have a feeder band that keeps feeding into Central Montgomery. Nothing major. She's moving out pretty quickly and yes, can't wait to get home to see all the footage, especially down towards, Port 'O Connor, Port Lavaca and Palacious. Ok, what else is out in the Atlantic? Who's next?

Still good here. Have a terrible headache though. I've heard that it's worse to be IN a hurricane because the pressure drop gives you severe headaches.
Can't wait to go home and go to sleep. Stayed up too late last night watching news but couldn't get back online to read stuff. Had to reboot everything and finally figured out that I needed to turn off my DSL modem and then back on.
Can we have a break, please? No more storms for a couple of weeks.
Then again, I still have to remind myself of the sorry fact that we haven't had a major cane in Galveston for 20 years and they say we're overdue. Ugh!
Oh yeah...if anyone wants links to news sites here in the area:
http://www.click2houston.com
http://www.ktrk.com
http://www.galvnews.com
http://www.chron.com
Click around...they keep adding pics and stuff. And I'll post anything new that I find.

Glad to hear you guys are doing okay. No one knows what its like to sit through a Hurricane unless they have experienced it. I have a problem with some people in the chatroom saying Oh it's only a Cat 1, HEY you, that were saying that, A CAT 1 is a Hurricane with strong winds that destroy homes, trees, etc. I was not a happy camper with some posters after Lili, saying oh she wasn't a CAT 4, no maybe she wasn't but she destroyed alot of our trees, fences, roofs, homes, vehicles, power lines, etc. Some people in our community still have trees in their yards that haven't been taken away. So my point is the statements "It won't be a bad one" or "At least it's not a CAT 4 like we thought she would be and she weakened before hitting you" Take those statements and put them away. If ever I see anyone making those types of statements again, GET READY Guys and Gals, the Cajun will come out in me.... Now that I have gotten this off my chest You all have a Great Day and I pray the people in Galveston and the entire area that Claudette messed with are all okay.

Amen Bre. Thanks for making that post. I remember last night when the west turn was taken several people in the chatroom declared that we were in the clear and not going to feel any affects - well I hate to burst their bubble - but I did feel the affects over on the East side of Houston - rain and wind blowing so strong that it was pushing my SUV sideways. I don't live for the ability to be in a cat 4 storm - maybe they said these things that bre stated out of disappointment or whatever cause it did turn. But trust me this storm was felt by alot of people. I was appalled because we had people who had never been through a storm and them saying it wasn't going to be anything - in the clear. As you have seen Claudette didn't go due west - she DID have a couple of northward jogs - landfall was in Palacious area. My prayers go out to every affected.

You are right Bre!!! CAT 1 canes can do alot of damage as one stronger. Hurricane Georges made a believer out of me. I do not like seeing those type posts either. When I do the "redneck" in me comes out as well!!! lol. You have a legitimate gripe.
One of my best friends has family down in Palacios and she has not been able to get through as of yet. Does anyone know of any damage down in Palacios? I need to get her some news.
You all stay safe down there!!!

It's not good hearing all the damage reports and most important that someone was hurt. I am very glad to hear that you all are ok. It's still not over for a lot of people and I am sure we will be hearing a lot more reports as the day goes on.
Doesn't matter if it is a TS or a Cat 5 storm, if you get property damage or someone dear to you hurt, then it's a cat 5 to you. People work all their lives for what they have just to have it taken from them in just a few short minutes. Maybe damage wasn't wide spread and you hear lots of people say it wasn't that bad for them, but I guarantee you someone out there lost something that meant a lot to them. It's just not a good time to hear the words that it could have been worse.

This in from Bermuda Beach report on radio:
Three cars (one from TX, two from CO) are lodged down in the sand, partially on top of each other, dented and saturated. A couple came down from CO to get married on the beach. Now their transportation back home is destroyed and part of the house has been damaged also.
