Houstonia - what is it like in Conroe. Man just drove to work its flooding everywhere in Baytown - torrential rains coming down and driving winds. I drive an avalanche and it was blowing me across the road. But I am here at work!

Well, I'm sure you guys are seeing how it is in Galveston on the news. Strong winds, palm tree branches blown all over the place, rain off and on.

Safe at work here....but gonna post something else on a new thread. Need info.

No word yet. They told us yesterday (before 3:30) to get our homes ready, have a full tank of gas, cash, and then to plan on coming in to work with a change of clothes, unless we heard from our supervisors. Then, when the hurricane warning expanded to include us, we thought things would change. But nope.

Possibly, but I'm at UTMB...major hospital and clinics. We tend to keep working through whatever. I'm sure if that westward turn hadn't happened, we would have not come in to work.

They keep talking about the Seawall on the radio and how the water is just washing up over it. Wish the webcams showed those shots, but they're not at the right locations.

A squall line must be moving through (actually, I'm looking at the radar and it confirms this). It's a breezy (gusting only to 10 mph though) NNE wind. Heavy downpours and dark outside.

Good.. this will give the out-of-towners at our workshop something to take home with them... ;-)

btw, the eye certainly is remaining in tact, isn't it?

Thanks, Chad. Unfortunately, that Galveston SurfCam is rarely ever live.

Here's a page with a few more, not just in Galveston. About half of them work...but they're live.

Galveston - I guess I can understand about you having to go to work, but Ticka? Where do you work at? I probably wouldn't even want to leave at this point if they told me I could go home!

STAY SAFE EVERYONE AND KEEP ON CHECKING IN!!!

Well inland, the breeze has picked up here in Austin and is now a steady 15-25 mph from the northeast. Milky cirrus covers the sky with dark clouds approaching from the southeast.

NWS folks here concerned because the Hill Country immediatelyl west of Austin as well as San Antonio is prone to bad flooding in these kinds of events.

If anyone is interested, I'll post later today and tonight as Claudette's effects are more pronounced here.

Here's a report I got via email, forwarded from someone's family:

The news indicates that the worst of the storm has passed, although there will be more rain. We are also still under both a Tornado watch and a Flood Watch. Those may be lifted sometime this afternoon. There has been a good bit of damage on the west end of G. island with roads eroded and decks, stairs and piers washed away. Some people had to be rescued from their homes. There has been a lot of debris on Seawall Blvd. They interviewed the G. mayor and he said the storm was much worse than anticipated and many people weren't prepared. I haven't heard of any confirmed loss of life. There seemed to be a question about a man and a young boy who had been in a Surfside house that collapsed. The Kemah boardwalk is under water with a couple of feet of water in some of the buildings. The water is expected to rise there a couple more feet before the end of the day. Houses in Bayou Vista also report water inside. There were some reports of power outages around both Freeport and Angleton, I believe.
