Why no local storm warnings/flash flood watches/etc...?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

FUNNEL CLOUDS REPORTED IN SW HARRIS COUNTY.

AT 545 PM CDT.THE HOUSTON FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORTED FUNNEL CLOUDS
NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF BELLFORT & GESSNER. SCATTERED SHOWERS ARE
MOVING SW AT 40 MPH ACROSS THE AREA. CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE
FOR THE FORMATION OF FUNNEL CLOUDS & POSSIBLY TORNADOES.SHOULD
THEY BRIEFLY TOUCH DOWN.

RESIDENTS OF SE TX SHOULD KEEP AN EYE TO THE SKY & TAKE
COVER IF A TORNADO IS OBSERVED.

It went through at 40mph and was basically over before it started. Notice they said funnel cloud, not tornado. I think that is the reasoning used. It wasn't reaching the ground. And obviously communication may not move at 40 mph.

I went out to the Seawall earlier to see how things were. Lots of people, lots of news crews, lots of incredible waves. Wish I'd taken a camera but it was probably too dark.

I put my eye to the sky,...

...and got sand in it.

Those little grains of salt and sand can STEEEEEENG!! :D
