The shift north is happening and now a tropical storm watch is in effect from Matagorda to High island and the hurricane watch is extended more north.So Ticka,OtherHD,GalvestonDuck,galvby,David,Houstonia and many more prepare now because this will affect that area more than it was expected. :o

Ticka you are superconfinent about that area that you mentioned for landfall but the shift north is real not a fantasy and if the center gets in south of Houston between Matagorda and freeport for example then you will get the strongest part as it is the strongest in all systems and that will be torrential rains in squalls.

My thoughts and prayers are going to those in the area that will be affected.

The area north and east of the center will be the areas hardest hit. Also... take a look at the sat. It has been moving almost due north for the last few frames. It should turn a little more westerly soon... I hope.

Well, this is why we all stay prepared... we know how fickle storms are, and how they can surprise people. And boy has this lady been surprising people since she first formed. I'm not buying anything the NHC says until the moment she makes landfall, and I wish they and everyone would just admit that they're as befuddled as the rest of us so that people north of Brownsville might pay attention to what Claudette could do!

Rain Rain and more rain - wonder if we could see a repeat of history - TS Claudette dropped 40 inches of rain in alvin - Houstonians - ya'll remember that - and we know how TS affect the Houston area - flooding and more flooding.

Claudette is still moving much more N than NNW on the last few frames. Take a look at the long range radar loops from Galveston and New Orleans. The Galveston loop shows a possible eye wall developing this morning.

Keep this in mind, if she strengthens into a hurricane, the wind field expands, and the movement continues more NNW today, Hurricane Warnings for the Upper Texas Coast will likely be issued

It all depends on the shear today.

I did not think she would have become a threat the Houston-Galveston area this time.

Oh Claudette 1979. We had 22.5" of rain in 24 hours in Pearland. The rain was incredible. A little more S in Friendswood they picked up 35-37" and must not for get ALvin - 43" in 24 hours with a storm total of 45"

We are a threat Katdaddy - remember we are on the wet side or dirty side of the storm and I don't see the West turn happening and according the last advisory it won't until 12-24 hours.....

VB, I am due to go up the same person's house tomorrow night as I was during Allison. Why she insists on picking THIS time of year to travel, I don't know...

I'm hoping that her flight will be cancelled... that's mean of me, but I just don't want to be responsible for all 17 of her housepets during a storm.

Plus, housesitting would take place in Montgomery County and I don't want to miss a good innocent storm like Claudette!! waaah!!

We are also just begining a week-long workshop here in the Woodlands. I seem to be the only one concerned about the possibility of a hurricane! EVeryone is all... "This is the Woodlands--we don't get storms here"
