Allison was southwest of Houston when the "core rain" event happened. Hopefully, after Edouard makes landfall, there will be not a "core rain" event. Those tend to come unexpectedly. They are hard to predict.

Alison caused a lot of rain as it came in, it moved up to the College Station and more or less died there. What caused the flooding was the fact that a few strong thunderstorms formed overnight over the Houston area due to all the outflow boundaries and moisture that was coming in from the Gulf. For all intents and purposes, Alison was already dead though.

Absolutely incorrect. Allison's remnant low actually drifted back southward from College Station, and as it drifted southward what is known as a "core rain event" occurred with the low, where all points east and south of the low pressure center received unbelievable amounts of rain. Looking at radar recon might find a strengthining Ed. Just a little to go in the SW and he will be wrapped in the center.

00Z GFS model run is right in line with the NHC forecast and consistent with previous runs, showing the center going over the Houston area at approximately midday on Tuesday.

Nice tight circulation just south of the SW pass of the Mississippi River. If this is the LLCC it is moving west per the NO radar.....MGC

It looks to be picking up speed to my untrained eyes.

It's alittle south of the NHC track, which has it going into Galveston Bay.

The GFS now has it on the southern tip of Galveston Island.

The convection is on the decrease to south. Now let's see if there is a new burst right over the center in the next 6 hours.

I wouldnt go that far yet..while the convection is wrapping into the system now, it appears to be weakening as it does so. I think this burst will eventually cover the center, but I think it will take one more large burst to get this thing really strengthening.

That must be my problem, I thought the current large burst WAS the center haha.

It is possible that the center could reform here though. Also it seems like there is the beginning of some banding features.

The center has been exposed the entire time.

Yeah I don't think it's weakening but strengthening could be delayed a little because while the center is a little dry now the inflow and banding looks better.

I really don't see what looks so bad about it. Yes it looks a little worst on IR but it looks just fine if not improving on visible: http://www.rap.ucar.edu/weather/satelli ... uration=12
