This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Recon will confirm tonight if a new center has formed NE

#1 Postby cycloneye » Fri Jul 11, 2003 5:15 pm

There is growing speculation about a new center reforming to the NE and far from the official center that NHC is looking at and in latest visible loops it may be show just that but the best source will be tonights recon mission.

Funny you should mention that, I just took a snapshot of my GARP screen, identifying 3 separate swirls. The most significant is the one to the northeast. The slow movement today now makes landfall along the upper TX or LA coast a lot less likely. Looking more like lower TX to MX for landfall, probably as a TS.

Don't THink So

I can't detect much motion at all. Banding squalls are moving northward, but the "center" consists of at least 3 vortices rotating around a large low pressure region that's about 150 miles across (southwest-northeast).

Center versus "mess"

#7 Postby Steve Cosby » Fri Jul 11, 2003 6:13 pm

I guess what I meant was just looking at the whole cloud formation it seems to be heading north. Like you say, those vortices are not really moving but look at your computer screen from about 3 feet away. :)
