Possible blame to Claudette's sudden weakening ...

#1 Postby Stormsfury » Thu Jul 10, 2003 10:10 pm

Looking at satellite loops over and over again ... the tell-tale signs once again finally slapped me in face after looking at them intently for 15 minutes ... more outflow boundaries ... the entire lower levels are disrupted once again ...

Claudette is releasing more outflow boundaries than a gassy pizza eater ...

Chicken & the Egg

#2 Postby wxman57 » Thu Jul 10, 2003 10:16 pm

Kind of a chicken & the egg thing here. I don't think the outflow boundaries are the cause of the weakening, but the result of the weakening. The central core keeps collapsing (and sending out those outflow boundaries). Note that when Claudette strengthens, it's just far away from the upper low to be in the favorable right-rear jet quadrant. Outflow is enhanced (but shear is minimal), and she strengthens. But when Claudette moves too close to the low, wind shear increases too much, and the core collapses. It's a delicate balance.
