This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

1st let me WELCOME PEBBLES, my favorite character from the Flintstones. Talk about years and years of tropical knowledge!!!  Christine we are glad you came out of the shadows!!!! :10:

UH, Ticka, that is one big arse wild hair you have there!!! :1: YOU ARE THE QUEEN OF SPECIFICS!!!!NOT!!!!! :D

A lot of real estate betweem Claudette and any GOM coast, but the clear path environmetal debris wise thanks to two ULL's out in front of her is over the Yuc pen and into somewhere from N Mexico to NO imo. This is said without any study of model progs for the next 7 days, so no holding my feet to the fire!!!

I hope not Louisiana for those who endured Isidore, Lili, and Bill, but I'm afraid Louisiana, right now, is Claudette's target should it head into the GOM. :(

They are gonna sink sometime soon if that keeps up..I say they get spared this time around!!!

I sure hope I am wrong Rainband. My thoughts/opinions will probably change by tomorrow though. ;)

LOL about all the LA calls. It has rained every day since Bill and pretty much the 3 weeks leading up to Bill. I don't know about the official reporting stations, but it's been insane. I never pick N.O. because up until 2002, all storms headed this way always turn east. I don't want to jinx the fun I might otherwise have.

Interesting, Bastardi put out a 3:45 note telling all GC interests west of Mobile to pay attention. He also discussed the absolute rarity of this situation should it make headway into the Gulf. Joe said that if Claudette can slow to about 18mph by Thursday, it's got a chance to strengthen into "a pretty healthy hurricane."

To me, it looks like a potential 2 or 3 - but it's still too far out to make a call.

:D Hey good news. I've been banned from Weather Channel Tropics Board for posting the chat room of this site. Maybe that's good luck this year and from the looks of it they'll be plenty to track. My guess is Texas to Pensacola Fl. Don't see any big fronts pulling down yet to push her farther North. First it has to slooow down. 29MPH!!!. She could crash and burn at that speed. Sooner or later it has to come around the High.

Yeah, I agree RainBand. Their forecasts always employ the GFS which Joe himself constantly rails about. I don't trust them for that, but Joe himself is worth a look among sources on the web. He did a good job with Lili, Isidore and a pretty good job (though 1 degree too far west) with Bill.

But I agree that overall Accuweather sucks outside of him.

There is the possiblity of the high eroding to the east and there is a front coming down from the plains..Everyone from TX to Keywest needs to watch her IMHO  bTW welcome to STORM2K!!!!!!

Derecho said that models are saying it'll go into the BOC and wander around there for a while. He said no model has it hitting north or east of Brownsville...at this time.

It is too early to depend on opinions and early model runs..that aren't intialized with this system IMHO

I just replied to this in another thread. Local met. here said it is forecast to cross the Yucatan and go into the BOC. Derecho is definitely on to something.

As was mentioned..

As was mentioned a few posts above, most of the models did not initialize the center very well at all - they were too far south. Therfore, they'll show the track too far south, most likely. SW Gulf is more likely than BOC, then possibly TX for landfall. Can't rule out LA/MS either (or even Mexico).

IF Claudette doesnt slow down some, she may not have too much time to strengthen!! She is haulin booty!! BUT IF she does slow down, there is alot of warm water for her to get her vitamins from and strengthen considerably, possibly to a cat 2! Unfortunately once a storm enters the GOM, it doesn't stop until it hits land. With all the bad weather we have been having, my only hope is that she finds a stopping point where she will do the least damage. :o LA and east surely doesn't need her company, but this season is definitely going to be one of breaking records and big surprises  I wouldn't even venture a GUESS as to what she might do, but I can say that I raised my homeowners deductible this year and what is that they say about "Murphy's Law" :o ...........get ready for sleepless nights, pots of java and No-Doze!! Hang on tight, let's go for a ride!! :)
