We just got lambasted! I'm watching the coulee (bayou, lg drainage ditch that flows into the vermilion river) behind my house. It's at least 1/2 way to my house. We probably got around 3.5"-5" according to one of the radars. Darn nws..."Due to technical difficulties, the radar display is temporarily unavailable. Thank you for your patience. NWS radar team"

Yep another round moving in right now. The river is supposed to reach 13' tonight (3 feet above flood stage) but that could be higher if training sets up again. Keep an eye out on that coulee! Looks like some parts of the city could have seen over 6" in just a couple hours.

Re: SE TX/SW LA weather: The Heat is on!
The weather continues dry here south of Houston. Officially, they've recorded 0.23 inches of rain for the month of May at the Brazoria County airport about 5-6 miles from me. We had a nice rain over 2 days near the end of April though when I measured 3.7". This has been a really windy spring too which makes things dry out quicker. What's the deal with that? I can't remember a day that the wind was still any time this spring. Kind of makes the heat that we've been having lately a little more bearable when you're outside though.

Just a feeling, but while the dry weather continuing into the summer will be harsh on water bills for people with lawns, and on area farmers, I suspect it means the ridge will be in the neighborhood for hurricane season, and storms in the Gulf will find either Mexico or the Eastern Gulf Coast.

Party in Jamaica Beach (Galveston Island) tomorrow.
Cooling sea breezes, mid to upper 80s, and the coast will miss out on the 20 to 30% of afternoon sea breeze storms.
Water temps just about the 80ºF (26.5º) required for bathing comfort.
From Joe Kent's May 25th fishing report in the Galveston Daily News

Offshore was virtually out for the smaller boats, and I heard several larger boats canceled charters due to the rough seas.
The beachfront is sandy under winds gusting to more than 20 mph and mainly pan fish are being caught.
Richard Belleau, 61st Street Fishing Pier, reported largely croaker, whiting and drum being taken by his customers.
Friday, Marcus Warman landed a 36-inch red while fishing the surf off Seawall Boulevard at 80th Street. Squid was his bait of choice.
Battling the high winds with success was Capt. Michael LaRue, LaRue’s Guide Service, who hosted the Adam McCully party of three to some great action Saturday morning. Using Texas Trout Killers in pumpkinseed, attached to quarter-ounce jigs, the three guests limited out on trout by 11:30 a.m. The action came in 10 to 12 feet of water over shell.
Paul Hescock of Dallas awoke early Saturday at his brother’s house at Jamaica Beach and wade fished the shoreline just east of the subdivision. Using topwaters and silver spoons, the weekend visitor caught three specks to 4 pounds. Hescock was back at the house before anyone else had awakened.

There is a decent cap at Lake Charles, but it shouldn't be unbreakable with daytime heating and the right trigger...

The MCS in North Texas has picked up a bit of speed, and eyeball interpolation would bring it to points along/in-between I-45 and I-49 to near SE Texas and SW Louisiana by early evening, when a loss of afternoon heating should lower instability and increase the cap.
We need the rain.

I stay in Jamaica Beach A LOT and fish that stretch of water all of the time....mainly because no one else is ever out there fishing and because I have caught a buttload of fish while wade fishing this shoreline. Thanks for the report Ed. I'm heading back there for a week when the kids get out of school for some serious surf fishing. Can't wait!

Wind and seas too high for surf fishing, lots, and I mean, lots of seaweed on the beach.

Yeah I have been looking at that too. Right now not a cloud in the sky, and hot & humid... Could be interesting.

When high pressure is really, really in control in SE Texas, the cumulus are few and far between, and have no vertical development. Now, no mistaking any of the cu today for congesti/nimbi, but they are fluffy and in abundance, so if the line being pushed along by its own cold pool can get here before it starts cooling for the evening, we'll get some much needed rain.

Lots of fair weather cu in the Galleria. Maybe you're behind the sea breeze...

It seems to have slowed a tad, and if it isn't here sometime in the next 3 or 4 hours, I suspect the cap and surface cooling will kill it. It'll be close.
The good news, NWS HGX in the afternoon AFD mention that the boundary from this could serve as a trigger for tomorrow, and have boosted the 10% pops for tomorrow around here to 30%.
