What to do when 90L.INVEST is declared

#1 Postby Cyclone1 » Sun May 18, 2008 3:50 pm

(The following is a joke created out of sheer boredom. One should never ever follow this list, due to risk of looking like a fool.)

Tips for the hurricane over-enthusiast.

When 90L.INVEST is declared, you should...

1. Shout happy exclamations and feel a strange sense of accomplishment.
2. Open the NRL website several times to make sure it's not just an error.
3. Wait over-impatiently to read what the NHC thinks about the system in the upcoming TWO.
4. Try to beat 30 other hurricane over-enthusiasts in the unspoken contest "Who can post new information the fastest?" and feel another strange sense of accomplishment when you win. This includes initial tread creation, TCFA's, Danger areas, TWO's and such.
5. Once the information is posted, refresh Storm2k.org once every second until someone else posts something.
6. Tell users who thought the area of disturbed weather would not be declared an INVEST to feast on some type of black-feathered bird that is not usually considered edible. Posting an image of this bird on a dinner plate is optional.
7. Save many images of the INVEST, perhaps create a Photobucket album. Use an image as an avatar or desktop background.
8. Search desperately for a LLC.
9. When you haven't found one, make up a spot where you think it could be, and specify with Microsoft Paint. While you're at it, make a map on the direction you think the storm is heading, and give it a cool, edgy name. (This step is only for the advanced hurricane over-enthusiasts and should not be attempted by amateurs.)
10. Criticize the NHC when they say the storm is beginning to dissipate, regardless of whether they're right or not.
11. Curse the names of shear and dry air.
12. Remain in denial, claiming that the low-level spin could still re-fire some convection.
13. Once the NRL removes 90L from it's list of INVESTS, keep posting information on the cloudy area until the Storm2k moderators move the thread to the Archives.
14. Start a new thread titled "remnants of 90L."
15. Discuss the remnants until they are completely and totally invisible on any form of satellite or radar. Continue discussing the area where they were for at least a day. Finally, give up hope.
16. Feel empty.
17. Sit in despair and depression until 91L forms.
18. Repeat.

Shut up, I'm incredibly bored.

Go into full alert mode with around the clock coverage, like when TD-10 formed.

19. Put a pot of coffee on so you can stay up all night making sure it's still there.

I drink Cuban coffee, which is a lot more concentrated than American coffee, and it still doesn't affect my sleep!!

The only hurricane that has kept me the entire night without going to sleep was Charley as it was moving over the province of Havana, Cuba. Part of my family lives there and at about 2 AM, my parents woke up and called my aunt and they were really scared and it was at the time the eye of Charley was moving over them.

Wilma comes in a close second. It was the night when it exploded into a Cat. 5. I woke up at 2 AM, went to the computer to see what was happening with the young hurricane, and was hooked until about 5 AM.

Believe it or not, after Katrina passed over my house on August 25, 2005, at about 9 PM, I went to sleep at about 1 AM in the morning. No power, no telephone, no internet. That won't happen again because now we have a gas-powered generator that starts itself after the lights go out. I will still be on the internet unless the telephone lines are not working.

20. At 2 am, when everyone else is asleep, quietly step into the garden and try to determine whether the outer wind radii might be approaching--this is of course regardless of whether or not the storm is even in your hemisphere.

21. Start a thread that will reach 20 pages in an hour full of people panicing and predicting doomsday scenarios with absolutely no evidence to back it up.

22. Wishcast like you've never wishcasted before. If you have no evidence to back it up, make something up.
