Then this shouldn't be called storm of the month, but rather "Weather event of the month". But that opens a Pandora's box as Atlantic invests that were interesting would start being nominated for no reason. Which is why we need strict criteria, imo.

I somewhat disagree. I believe you are referring to the Midwest flooding.
In my opinion, any significant weather event should be game. The Midwest flooding was one of the more significant events in that region for quite some time with many rivers reaching near-record, if not record, water heights. Additionally, commerce and agriculture were affected. (It also played a small role in US rice prices since Arkansas does produce a large amount of rice.)

Yes, but it would have to be notable which is unlikely and it wouldn't win unless nothing happens worldwide for a month that is more significant.

Wouldn't the disturbance that caused so many deaths in Haiti in 2004 be a candidate for "Storm of the Month"?
A system doesn't necessarily have to be Katrina or Nargis to be "Storm of the Month".

91C.INVEST of 2006 would have had a bit of ease for storm of the month, but it would have lost to Cimaron if it was an October nominee in formation, and for strength in November, it would lose to Durian. Still, on a normal month, 91C would have had a shot.

I know the Virginia tornadoes were a lot closer to home, but I'm of the opinion the death toll in Myanmar/Burma is potentially so bad that Neoguri should have been the storm of the month.
But I guess a tie is a tie.

Neoguri was the storm that made landfall in China... Nargis was the one that hit Myanmar. Nargis was not nominated for April SOTM so it is time to make a May SOTM picture for Nargis.

Ack!
The non-alphabetized name list of the WestPac strikes again!

Nargis wasn't even a WestPac storm, so don't try to blame it on that.

You're right.
I've noticed you like to follow me around and note my mistakes. Well, good for you! The fewer mistakes, the better.
