Around the end of the month when the WMO meets. It appears that Dean, Felix and Noel will be retired.

By the way, if anyone's wondering why there hasn't been any news yet, it's because the official session of the RA IV Hurricane Committee is from 23 to 28 April.

Well today is the beginning of the meeting, I assume. My bet is that Dean/Felix will be retired, while Noel will not.

We should know by Monday what names to scratch off the list. Cases are being made for Felix and Noel I know that, and Dean seems quite obvious as well.

there is a much better case for Felix than there is Dean

Emily was worse for Mexico than Dean... not being recommended by Mexico. Wasn't the worst Jamaican hurricane.

That said, I beleive it was stated here that France is requesting retirement

I believe we will see three names retired from the 2007 season:

Dean
Felix
Noel

Hopefully, we will know by the end of the week!

I am just wondering, if Dean, Felix and Noel get retired as well as Erin which I believe caused damage and deaths, but I hope she does not get retired, what do you think of this list?

Well, unlike Emily, Dean caused significant damage to areas other than Mexico.

Anyway, according to EM-DAT, here are countries that had damage and deaths from Dean. (Money is in US dollars)

Dominica: 2 dead; $20 million
Dominican Republic: 1 dead; $40 million
Guadeloupe: $300 million
Haiti: 9 dead
Jamaica: 4 dead; $300 million
Martinique: 1 dead; $300 million
Saint Lucia: 1 dead; $40 million
Belize: $14.847 million
Mexico: 9 dead; $600 million

So, Dean caused at least 27 deaths and around $1.6 billion in damage.

Emily did cause significant damage to Grenada though. I was a little surprised that Grenada did not request retirement, especially given what had happened with Ivan (and Emily hit the northern part of the country, which got off easy from Ivan)

That siad, based upon some of France's requests, I do expect France to be the country to request retirement for Dean

I like your replacement names, but I would change Ellen to maybe Elizabeth, Eliza or Eva, a name that we haven't seen used before.

there is ZERO chance of Erin being retired... it caused very little damage!

If we can get 'Edoauard' retired after the upcoming season, maybe they'll replace it with "Ed" or "Edward", and I'll have a storm to look forward to in 2014.

My wife is Hispanic, I could live with 'Eduardo'. Just can't identify with a French name.

Erin's damage was about $25-50M. That is NOT a case for retirement.

Erin-95 had a much better case than this one.

If Edouard gets retired it will likely be replaced with...a French name! :P Maybe Etienne or something. Sorry. But hey, there are two other male E names on the lists!

Sorry for thinking that Erin could be retired, but I felt it could be because it caused a lot of dollars in damage.

I know about some tropical storms and minimal hurricanes that got retired:

Agnes
Allison
Stan

Well, those three also caused over $1 billion in damage.

Agnes: 129 deaths, 2.1 billions in damage (1972)

Allison: 41 deaths, 5.5 billions in damage (2001)

Stan: ~2000 deaths (direct and indirect), 1 billion in damage (2005)

_______________________

Erin: 16 deaths, 25 million in damage

Big difference.
