My Pool is Open!
As of today, my pool reached all of the necessary chemical requirements and 85°F. This is two weeks later than we had expected. 2 weeks ago, we took the winter cover off and turned on the motor, and it seized right up. We had to replace the motor, and then start putting the chemicals in. Going for the first swim of the year today, before it gets cooler again.

Re: My Pool is Open!
Warm enough to mow the lawn in shorts today, but overnight lows forecast in the upper 40s (about 10ºC) in SE Texas, with frosts possible further North, and a touch of the cool and low dewpoint (evaporational cooling of wet skin exiting the pool) is heading for Florida.
I see NWS forecasts around Tampa also have lows in the 40s.
Maybe pool weather for Canadians, not sure about Floridians.

We don't have a pool, but mis suegros homeowner's association has a community pool, which I think opens Memorial Day, and usually I prefer Galveston.
Water temps between 22 and 23ºC, or around 70ºF, which is about the lower limit of getting in the water. Call me goofy, but I like the Gulf toasty warm for bathing. I think places like Jones Beach in New York (I grew up in Massapequa, NY) don't get ocean temps that warm until well into July, so on a 90ºF beach day, if you took a dip in the water to cool off, you really cooled off.
When I was in 'A' school in Great Lakes, IL, I waded into Lake Michigan on a 100ºF day back in 1983, and that water was chilly.
Darned chilly.

But the Gulf is still a mite chilly.
I will say, having been to the beach in Galveston and North Padre Island in Texas, and Biloxi in Mississippi, the water is cleaner looking your part of the Gulf.

Mr. Speedo has, in fact, visited this thread and probably saw your post, Big Mouth.
Oh, the topic. My pool will never open because I don't have one. OK, done.

Re: My Pool is Open!
I was hoping we'd be able to swim in my parent's pool before long as temps had warmed up considerably. But we hit 52F last night and this is the forecast lows for the next few nights. Even down into the 30's again! This will definitely delay swimming. It was in the 50's at the ballpark this morning (had to be there at 7:30am!) and quite windy... after stepping outside before I left and thinking I didn't need a jacket, once I got there in that wind, I was freezing my tootsies off. Well, actually, my arms.
Fortunately, I remembered there was a blanket in my car... which I shared. Yesterday afternoon at the ballpark, we were quite toasty in shorts and flip-flops.
Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 44. Northwest wind around 5 mph.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Calm wind becoming northwest between 5 and 10 mph.
Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 40. North wind between 5 and 10 mph.
Monday: Sunny, with a high near 72. North wind between 5 and 10 mph.
Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 37. North wind around 5 mph becoming east.
Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 73. East wind around 5 mph.
Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 46. South wind around 5 mph.
No rain in the forecast: hallelujah!

Re: My Pool is Open!
Our pool and jucuzzi opened this weekend with the aid of the pool heater. We have friends arriving from Northern CA this week that want to swim, so we're ready.

Hector, the guy that lives across the street for me and works for Modern Method Gunnite, has a pool that looks a lot like that one, with a little grotto where one can sit half out of the water and enjoy adult beverages. I think he got a really nice discount as an employee.
Still too bitterly cold in Southeast Texas to even wear a bathing suit outdoors, let alone swim in an unheated pool, as even though it is April, there is still nothing between the Yukon and Houston but barbed wire fences.

We were fortunate to be able to custom build our pool. We spent 7 hours around the kitchen table designing it 3 years ago this month. There were a lot of add ons and upgrades, one being a 400,000 BTU gas heater. As far as the cost at a cash price we paid, it was our reward for working hard in the FL Keys for 5 years and selling properties there in 2005. We do enjoy relaxing outside at the end of a hard work day.
