The Winter Storm Warning is up for the NW counties of DFW, with the metroplex under a Freezing Rain Advisory.

Radar returns are lighting up SW of the metroplex this afternoon. Seems like most of it is not reaching the ground yet, but San Angelo is reporting light rain.

EVAPORATIVE COOLING, you will see temps start falling as the precip moves in.

I read the AFD just now, but think they are still playing it safe with the DFW area. Radar and Sat loops show a large area of moisture moving over the colder air, this moisture looks to cover more of NTX than first thought, and I will not be suprised to see updates to the warnning area be extended eastward by midnight or shortly there after.

The National Weather Service has downgraded the Winter Storm Watch to a Freezing Rain Advisory for the areas south and east of the WINTER STORM WARNING.

...FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING TO
12 PM CST FRIDAY...
...WINTER STORM WATCH NO LONGER IN EFFECT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN FORT WORTH HAS ISSUED A FREEZING
RAIN ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING UNTIL
NOON FRIDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

LIGHT SLEET...RAIN OR FREEZING RAIN IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO THE
WESTERN PART OF NORTH TEXAS LATE THIS EVENING. THE PRECIPITATION
WILL SPREAD EAST OVERNIGHT CHANGING TO A MIX OF RAIN AND FREEZING
RAIN. AVERAGE ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF ONE TENTH OF AN INCH OR LESS
CAN BE EXPECTED IN THE ADVISORY AREA. TEMPERATURES WILL FALL
BELOW FREEZING WHEN THE PRECIPITATION BEGINS AND REMAIN BELOW
FREEZING THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS. ICE ACCUMULATIONS UP TO ONE
TENTH OF AN INCH WILL CAUSE MODERATE ICING ON AREA ROADS LATE
THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING. CONDITIONS WILL IMPROVE
AROUND NOON AS TEMPERATURES WARM ABOVE FREEZING AND THE SYSTEM
MOVES TO THE EAST.

A FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF FREEZING RAIN OR
FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. SLOW DOWN AND
USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING. BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES WILL BE THE
FIRST PLACES THAT ICY SPOTS WILL DEVELOP. DO NOT SLAM ON THE
BRAKES WHEN APPROACHING AN ICY BRIDGE OR OVERPASS. INSTEAD...
MAINTAIN A CONSTANT SAFE SPEED AND COAST ACROSS THE ICE. IF YOU
START TO SLIDE OR SKID...CALMLY STEER IN THE DIRECTION OF THE
SKID TO STRAIGHTEN THE VEHICLE OUT AND REGAIN CONTROL.

I don't think that's a downgrade, per se. The WSW is issued a day or 2 in advance to inform the public of the possibility of wintry weather. Then I think it's replaced by the more specific advisory or warning, depending on accumulation amounts and/or severity.

AFD out of Midland mentioned lots of wrecks on overpasses, and Abilene is 32ºF with unknown precip.

I can't remember what town in North Carolina it was 2 or 3 years back, that the automated weather station reported snow as a hurricane was passing offshore. Nowhere near freezing, of course.

I'm guessing freezing drizzle myself.

WOOO! we just got our first band of sleet! a little rain mixed in, but mainly sleet, and actually a decent pace for about 5 minutes. No accumulations yet obviously, but evaporative cooling is beginning to take effect.

Think I've given up on winter precip in Austin. Had a few chances this past week, but nothing. :(

I'm pleasantly, mildly surprised to wake up to no freezing rain or ice accumulation. Awesome. :D

It is icing at Meachem. Maybe the school children of Northwestern Tarrant County will get a delayed school start or cancellation.

Don't give up yet, we have 4-5 more weeks of possible winter action. But if we get into the third week of February and nothing has happened ... well, in my opinion, it'll be time to bag it and welcome in "spring."

WOW - yeah ice isn't fun - but this turned-out to be a big dud for my friends/family up in DFW.

Have you taken a look at the Intellicast radar, for what it is worth? Lots of icing North and East from there. Looks like Arkansas will be under a sheet of ice.
