PTPatrick wrote:well, all I can say is that over the past week NAM has DONE GREAT. It called the atlanta snow when GFS said all rain. And I know it is not the same region, but it was dead on with Denver not getting any snow Wednesday when GFS had up to an inch. Also, today...NWS here in Denver went with GFS on less than half and inch of accumulation for tonight. They even mentioned NAM was an"outlier" calling for 3 inches in Denver Metro...guess what happened...about an hour after the 5:00 news guys were saying so much any snow "no accumulation expected"...a band set up and downtown denver now has 3 inches of snow...in less than 3 hours. So my point...at this time I am MUCH more inclined to believe NAM on snow prediction.

I mean think about it. Wednesday had cold rain written all over it for Atlanta if you were to believe the models...and look what happened.

And of course as most southerners know...snow usually happens when its is barely predicted...and if the issue a winter advisory more than a 24 hours before...they usually bust.

In pascagoula on Christmas of 04...I know thicknesses didnt really support snow at all if you were to pay attention to models...yet for some reason, we had an inch on the bayou before the afternoon was over....and that wasnt even that cold of an airmass...if memory serves temps barely went down that night.

and the NAM shows a LOT more snow than the GFS. It shows about 6 inches here while the GFS shows an inch. Yeah, I'm sure based on radar it will only snow an inch.

LOL Pretty sure snow doesn't make a sound. I've been going outside every hour or so and making sure it's ALL rain. Pretty sad, yes. My uncle who lives in Florala,Al (about 30 minutes north of Crestview) says he's getting some ice pellets mixed in with the rain up there.

Ivanhater and Opalstorm I'm jealous of both of you. Here in Boca Raton we can't get below 70°F tonight. If I was up their I'd be out in my lawn chair sitting out in the rain waiting for the changeover to snow. Take some pictures.

So far the only report of sleet/snow across MS that I know of was sleet reported in Columbus earlier. I'm sure central parts will start to get more snow later though.

On the local boards I'm monitoring numerous reports of very light sleet and/or snow flurries across Tuscaloosa and Birmingham with temperatures still pretty warm. The Birmingham airport just recently reported sleet and rain.

My dewpoint has dropped from the mid 40's earlier to 30 in about 2 hours.

It's actually colder than 39F in Beaumont. That's at the airport, south of Beaumont, in Nederland. It drives me nuts that they use that for official Beaumont weather when it's not even in Beaumont.
You can see actual Beaumont, Jasper, etc. temps at this link: http://www.kfdm.com/sections/weather/instaweather/
That's the Beaumont one closest to me. I'm near the Jefferson/Hardin county line. Anyway, scroll below the map and click on "Show a list of all stations within the KFDM coverage area" and it will give you a long list of current temps in the area. It's currently 33F at Rowe Intermediate in Jasper. I have talked to Chief Meteorologist Greg Bostwick (greg_kfdm_tv on here) about the weather stations and while one may mail malfunction occasionally, they usually do a good job of getting them back on track quickly.

I use this link all the time, since the weather at the airport, closer to the Gulf, in no way reflects what is going on near my house. :)

Btw, my brother lives in Jasper. I thought about calling and waking him up to go look outside.
