Weather Surprises! Update, Another teaser or the real deal?
Well, the NWS out of the Springfield, Little Rock, and Memphis is forecasting snow for Friday night into Saturday along the Southern Missouri/ North Arkansas border. I hope it plays out as I've seen forecast like this bust 24 hrs out. Actually, in 1993 . I watched the local, (Joneboro 50 miles southeast) weather forecaster say there was no chance of a white Christmas in Northeast Ar. on the Christmas eave 10p.m. weather forecast, to wake up to heavy snow and snow till 2p.m. on Christamas day. It was amazing! We got 7 inches up here at Warm Springs!
Talk about a bust.

Ok, I know its only one run of the GFS but this one shows a deep south snow storm and cold blast from Dec 25 thru 26th.

Re: Weather Surprises!
Snow at anytime is nice
I think it gets extremely annoying around early or mid-June.
Anyway, amawea I hope you get your white Christmas.

Re: Weather Surprises!
The GFS now for 3 runs in a row now shows an arctic blast and possible snow event for the deep south around xmas day. This will be quite a shock to everyone who has enjoyed the warm and dry weather over the last couple of weeks if it pans out.

Re: Weather Surprises!
NWS that covers us here in Charlotte mentions the POTENTIAL for winter precip for the 20-21 time frame per GFS. It would be as you said, a total shock for us to go from the 80 degree area to two winter events within a week, especially for Christmas! At least it is something to watch, four days of record high temps in Dec is quite boring.

Well, they are now forecasting a 3 to 5 inch snow here on the Arkansas/Missouri border for Thurday/Thursday night. We shall see. The last time we got a whole 30 minutes of flakes.
I'll tell you this. I have never seen the wind blow behind a cold front for as long and hard as it did today. Winds were gusting to 60 mph and power lines and trees were coming down. I've seen it much worse when I was staioned in South Dakota, (up to 80 mph), but I can't ever remember it being this bad this far south behind a cold front.
Anyway, I hope we get that snow as my wife is driving me crazy asking for updates. She thinks I'm the best amateur forecaster on earth, lol.
I'm searching for traces of anything snow!
