Major COLD to invade gulf coast states

Time to start scoring my predictions that I had made last week for today. The high temperature has already been reached today, so I can now see if I was right...

My prediction for today was: 7˚ or more below normal (meaning 68˚ or colder)
Actual High at IAH today: 65˚ (10˚ below normal)

Looks like I was right on this one and will not have to eat crow!

Now though it is time to wait and see how my low-temperature prediction goes tonight. In the update I made last weekend, I called for 5˚ or more below normal on Wednesday night (meaning 47˚ or colder). The current forecast calls for upper 40s to near 50˚ (due to the expected remaining cloud cover)...so it will be a very close call.

Update (made at 3pm 11/8/07): My prediction for lows completely busted. Had the clouds cleared, I would have been correct, but since they stuck around we were only about 2˚ cooler than normal last night and not 5˚+ like I had originally predicted.

This cold front it stronger than most predicted.

for the record, my Lacrosse WS 2310 shows a current temp of 40.1F @ 9:30PM EST.

Yeah, Tallahassee is one of the coldest spots in Florida for some reason. Its essentially a totally different climate than the rest of Florida.

The area of North Florida and South Georgia from about Tallahassee to Macclenny & Gainesville to Valdosta is a weird weather area.

We have our own microclimate. I am sw of Jacksonville and average 5-7 degrees warmer during the summer/days and 5-7F colder during the winter/nights than the official JAX weather.

This area rarely gets the seabreezes that moderate the rest of Florida, and the only rivers are the Suwanee and the Santa Fe to help moderate the temps.

I have seen 20F differences between my work in Jacksonville and 30 miles away at my house.

It's the same way in the city of New Orleans south of the lake vs. Slidell and other cities north of the lake. Night time temps run between 10 an 15 degrees different at night because of the wind which blows the warm lake waters towards New Orleans.

I have the same phenomena here. I live in inland Pinellas County, Fl NW of St. Pete in a village called Kenneth City. Kenneth City temps aren't as affected by the Bay and Gulf as the rest of the county. My winter temps can be as much as 15° cooler than St. Pete. I don't even look at the St. Pete reading for the NWS, I go outside now. In the summer, that difference isn't as extreme.

Crestview,Fl (just east of Pensacola) is considered the "icebox" of Florida, it gets way colder than surrounding areas for some reason.

Yeah, Tallahassee is one of the coldest spots in Florida for some reason. Its essentially a totally different climate than the rest of Florida.

I remember in the early 1960's when I lived there that the temp got down into the teens several times and I think I remember it getting down to 7º once(unless I am remembering the coldest ever there(but I think that is 2º)). Temps in the low to mid 20's several times a winter were not uncommon, unlike here in Houston.

Crestview is one of the highest areas in FL in elevation, but I think their reporting station sits in a lower area and the cold air settles in there. It is always colder than anywhere else nearby(my Mom lives 20 miles away in Niceville).
