I don't live there, but we have owned a home in the Abacos since the 70's and I consider the Bahamas my second home. We've taken a huge couple of hits there in recent years, starting with Floyd, and we don't need any big winds now. Rain? Bring it on and please deliver some to central and southern FLA also!

Here are a couple of Webcam links in Martin County near the beach to keep track of the onshore flow and the wave action. Could get a bit intense over the next couple of days.

That's bad - I 'm sorry for your mom..
I'm amazed to hear that she's without power for two days. Palmas del Mar - it's pretty close to where I live - is a gated community and as far as I know all power line are underground there. I's never expect power problems there for so long! Hopefully it will be restored soon.

We've had a couple of blackouts during the last days, but not longer than 3, 4 hours.

The title of the thread should now inclue South Florida, as the first bands of the storm are aproaching.

I agree...Whether it makes landfall in Florida or not, at this point the effect will be the same.

Not really. All the bad news seems to be coming from the D.R.

I have not seen the slightest peep of information from Haiti. Even StormCarib hasn't received any updates. I'm becoming very sick; I suspect the death toll could be quite high in Haiti. There has been ZERO coverage from that country.

no information is usually the worst signal after a storm like this

I did see some footage on TWC that showed parts of Port Au Prince under water

Remember, it took a week to get word of the disaster known as Jeanne
