We know nothing about the pressure right now . . . latest data in is 989, but that's over a half hour old. We should be getting new data in the next few minutes.

I tell you what, we joked about all storms needing to be TS or Cat5... I think little Humberto took it to heart.

Nope, reduction would support 100mph but no pressure reading as of yet

With the surface data showing 83 knots on the other one. In the 98 knots at flight level, there is no question in my mind this is a cat2 now.

I'm sorry for calling it a she. Also this is not as strong as Rita, but people had no time to get out of this ones way unlike Rita. So this should be bad.

If this thing doesn't make landfall by the next adv at 4 am CDT, that might say cat 2 anyway. And even if it does make landfall, a tropical cyclone update will be issued.

No, what they will do though is issue an Update to say that Hurricane Humberto has made landfall with winds of 100mph 15 miles east of High Island, TX. No advisory, but still information.

There's simply no way to have known, for the people stuck in it. Don't second guess yourself at this point- you made the judgment you needed to with the information available. I think it's fair to say that *no one* expected this to happen.

Eye drop, 986mb/4kts

Since I'm not allowed to post quickly enough to put up the VDM before you Thunder, I'll just say that the eye has more than doubled in size.

Radar shows the northern portion of the eye on shore between HIgh Island and Gilchrist at around 1:35am CDT.

I have to admit this is an amazing turn of events considering where we were 24hrs ago. I was thinking to myself earlier today that based on the rate of strengthening we were seeing it would be possible for Humberto to reach minimal hurricane status if it tracked more ne to nne than forecast. I know the area along the coast east of High Island isn't too populated but I hope that word of what's going on right now can be given to those isolated communities in its path (I assume that some went to sleep thinking Humberto would remain a moderate TS). 80mph may not be Katrina like but for mobile homes it's bad and with the wet soil from all the rain this summer it won't take much to bring down trees!!!

Eyewall drop in NE quad . . . 991mb/64kts. Not the best of hits, but still a decent representation of the winds still over water.

With all due respect, you should probably have some yourself. It seems your statements that a) it wouldn't become a hurricane and b) that it wouldn't reach Category 2 status have both been proven wrong.
