Last one for me before bed, but check out the 1:20 frame as it looks like we ended up with a circular eye.

I talked to several people today who were like "what storm in the Gulf?"
It's been all over the news tonight, but there are still people living along the coast in FEMA trailers. I have no idea if they got out. There wasn't a Hurricane Watch or Warning, it developed rapidly, and nobody expected it to get this strong.

Don't buy the 77 and 80kt SFMR readings?
Does this mean it's close to category 2 strength? If so, my jaw is starting to drop, it's getting hard to keep it closed and upright

Eye is 10 nm, per the 0515Z advisory.

Yep, when we went to pick up our kids from school asked the teacher if she knew if there would be any school tomorrow cuz of the tropical storm, she didn't know what we were talking about...

No, not quite . . . the eye had shrunk by 2nm, from 8 to 6. New VDM should/could be in any minute with newer data, but yes, the SFMR winds would indicate a strong Cat 1. Makes me laugh when I consider that I told someone earlier today that this could be very much like Katrina in south Florida . . .

Re: Hurricane HUMBERTO (GOM): Discussion & Images
This is why looks don't mean everything. Td8 could have 50 knot winds right now in we would not have a clue.
I think because of the surface data this is now close to 80 knots. Could maybe edge into cat2.

They will probably close schools and offices if there are difficulties getting to/from locations due to debris or if there are power outages.
As for Tornadoes- if you're really worried, go ahead and drag the family into an inner room of the house with no windows- most homes will have at least one. You should be just as snug as in a basement up north. The tornadoes spawned by hurricanes are rarely F5 monsters. If you're *really* worried they always told us (the kids) to hide in a bathroom with a mattress over the bathtub... but that's really a bit excessive if you're in a well built home- most built this close to the coast are designed to hold up to Cat 2 at the least. =)
Stay calm, stay safe. Keep your ears open and keep your emergency radio on- local stations will report areas of tornado activity because they will have the eyes and ears from radar etc that you don't.

I don't know about the others, but I posted in the Texas stickied thread that BISD said they would make a decision by 3am. Check the local news about that time.. I know Ch.6 and Ch.12 are up all night with updates... haven't checked Ch.4
